My speedometer is very noisy and bounces all over. The noise in the dash is a on and off grinding noise with the speddometer needle bouncing back and forth. Any ideas on what might be going on here and any fixes would be appreciated.

Thanks- Rob

More that likely it is a dry speedo cable. To remedy this situation, take the speedo cable loose from the head and pull the inner core out, clean it with a solvent rag and dry thoroughly, use some white lubriplate and pass the cable thru it and back into the cable housing, twisting it while you install it and try not to get any lube on the last two inches of the core so as not to get any in the speedo head itself.

progress has little to do with speed, but lots to do with direction.

Leo-
When you say take it loose from the "head", do you mean from the speedometer end? And, if so, will I then be able to pull the cable out without disconnecting the trans. side?

Thanks in advance- Rob

Had the same problem with my Malibu. Just used some Chick-Chick spray.

Thanks to all, that's what the problem was. Sometimes it's just a simple fix.
