I bought my chevelle a long time ago and now im starting to work on the engine. I dont know if it runs or not. To see could i take the + wire and put it on the main starter wire to make it turn over?? and i bought new plug wires. Could someone tell me how to figure out the firing order so i know what cap to put where. Thanx

You'll have to provide 12V to the big lead on the starter and the one labelled "S" if you want to bump over the starter.

To figure out your firing order it is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Should be cast onto your intake also. The first terminal past the "window" on the distributor cap going clockwise is for cylinder number one, then continue clockwise for the rest of the cylinder numbers. That is how the distributor is set up. Then the cylinders themselves from front to back are 1,3,5,7 on the driver's side of the block, 2,4,6, 8 on the passenger side.
