A couple of years ago we had a 12 bolt built professionally. At the time we knew the axles were old but we were running out of money so we used them. When we had new tires installed the tire guy had issue with a number of the studs. Too loose.

I guess it is time to buy new axles. The car is a 69 Chevelle with a mild 454, 4spd. 388 posi.

Anyone out there that can recommend a set of axles? I saw Mosers at Jegs at a fair price.

Tom's Differentials has the best USA made axles you can get. After that I'd go with Moser, also USA made.

I also bought the Alloy USA axle kit for my 'Camino. Haven't installed them yet.

Seems Alloy USA and Precision Gear are now Tango Uniform. There was a thread about that awhile ago--just after I bought my axles.

Some folks have had problems with the C-clip "button" being too thick. Thanks for the reminder; I was going to measure mine and forgot.

Yeah, that was me in Shurkey's second link. I ended up installing the old axles and returning the Alloys with the thick c-clip buttons to Jegs for Mosers. I paid the difference in price but handling and shipping was waived. Jegs was pretty good about it.

Of course what a PIA it was to find the thick buttons on the Alloys at about 11:30 pm when I was trying to finish my first 12 bolt rebuild and gear swap. Now that I have the car on the road for the first time since starting the restoration in 1991, installing the new Mosers is item #96 on my list of things to do, just behind hanging the christmas tree deodorizer from the radio knob with the cellophane pulled down to the first set of branches.

Hmmm. Just went onto the Alloy USA web site, and found this:

Sponsorship Programs:
Note: While we congratulate all teams for living the life and wish you all well in your competitive endeavors, Alloy Ultra Axle/Omix-ada just recently purchased the assets and intellectual rights of Alloy USA from the bank and are in the process of revitalizing the company. During this transition. Alloy USA is not currently accepting any sponsorship requests at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

So I guess they're not Tits Up after all--but--the company address is no longer California, it's in Georgia, now.

Measured my axles, they've got the big ~.350 C-clip button. Dayam.

I've always ordered Moser's with the thick button.
Let's me set the end play on the axles to a better tolerance.
