: a deal of the century
andrew T Dec 2nd, 08, 12:31 PM According to the seller this is the deal of the century.
He wants 4000 bucks. He needs to sell it by this saturday and I am going to go look at it tonight with my pops.
rebuilt small block with 425 hp, a new tranny (dont know what kind yet), ruby red pearl metallic paint job. 90 percent complete with only a few interior parts missing and needs a starter, and it also has brand new chrome. Judging from the pics there are flat tires as well. The colour is kinda funky though...
let me know what you guys think and if the car looks like it is in good shape. He says he is being "transferred" and has to sell it quick and the car is practically mint!

so how does it look? still needs some work, which I WANT! as long as it ain't body rust or pits!
Thanks guys!
Andy69 Dec 2nd, 08, 12:44 PM I would say that's a darn good deal for $4k
wills65 Dec 2nd, 08, 12:48 PM Looks like a decent car to me.
animal69 Dec 2nd, 08, 1:38 PM It looks like a base model with some engine upgrades. I would want to add power disk brakes but $4K does look bad for a start. Check it out for rust and don't look to excited about it. You may get it cheaper if he is really modivated.
javablack Dec 2nd, 08, 2:04 PM seems like a good deal to me:)
andrew T Dec 2nd, 08, 3:21 PM I am still waiting for his phone call back. I will go tonight if he can do tonight, and try not to look anxious as you guys said, hopefully he lowers the price some more!
Still though, keep the opinions coming!
mingles Dec 2nd, 08, 4:26 PM Not to be a downer here, but you might want to be a little wary here. Any time you have a "have to sell this week" deal, the cynical side of me says something is being hidden or at least not all on the up and up. Not saying that is the case and the car looks pretty good, but just be wary.

Yes, I will be weary. I am not one to get caught in a scam, and with my father by my side, I doubt I will make a bad choice. But even a small inkling of "falsivity" or shadiness and I am outta there. But we will see what happens!
Enforcer505 Dec 2nd, 08, 4:36 PM i have to agree, looks like a base model with engine upgrades. plus i would be wary also, he claims to have a 425hp motor? anyone can claim anything. another red flag is new paint, be VERY careful of that. he wants to sell in a week. also if u dont like the color will u repaint it? alot of money can add up here.... looks like a nice car known the less.
andrew T Dec 2nd, 08, 4:41 PM looks like a nice car known the less.
I don't understand what you mean by that? (not trying to be rude)
Also yes I know about all that stuff. My father and brother will also be coming along. My dad has been in the automotive business for his whole life and built a beautiful 440 dart on his own, and has seen the good bad and ugly. My brother has just done his own bodywork to his 71 valiant and has seen the ups and downs as well. We won't be "steered wrong" although noone knows everything and we certainly arent the triple threat of car knowledge but I will get by.
I plan on asking him what he has got in that engine. Getting the casting number (where do I find that on a small block? although I think my dad knows) and also the VIN. I haven't been able to ask any other q's yet as he is at work right now I am assuming. So maybe it is a stock car, maybe there are some stuff that is aftermarket (like rear gears, posi, etc)
I will let you guys know how it goes tonight:thumbsup:
It's not an SS.
Non power drum brakes

He meant ......."none the less".
It's an expression of speach.
L72Chevelle Dec 2nd, 08, 7:04 PM Needs a starter, make sure you hear this thing run.
1badss396 Dec 2nd, 08, 7:19 PM Hurry up and buy it before Andy drives up there and buys it out from under you.:D
d1_bradley Dec 2nd, 08, 7:27 PM Needs a starter, make sure you hear this thing run.
I agree here. "Needs a starter" usually means "No way this thing will run" If you have to, leave a refundable deposit and return with a starter and battery. Look to see which one fits. It MUST run or you get your deposit back (IN WRITING). (I smell no oil pressure)
Andrew, where did you find it?
If this car has lived it's entire life in (road salt capitol) Ontario, you would be well advised to also look closely at the entire floor/trunk and frame, bring a good light. Good luck.
704EVER Dec 2nd, 08, 7:53 PM Needs a starter, make sure you hear this thing run.
Agree with Phil here, who would even try to sell a car with a motor that won't run due to a starter problem that's easily fixed, if there weren't bigger issues to hide?? Proceed with caution!!
BUBBA2711 Dec 2nd, 08, 8:07 PM Be very wary! Headers unbolted from the heads, sparkplug wires pulled off, no starter or battery. Guages on the hood, line locks, and a big tach, probably a beaten race mule. Sounds like if you get it running he's trying to disguise something bad. Let me guess if you don't buy it now he has 3 other people that want it for more money.
andrew T Dec 2nd, 08, 10:10 PM Well guys,
waste of time!
I brought my pops and my dad's friend Tony who is a huge Chevy guy and owns a shop. We brought a light, jacks, stands, everything to check it out. if we were there 10 minutes it was too long. The guy was RUDE! he was trying to screw me thinking I am some dumb 19 yr old, little did he know I brought no cash!
I ain't no genius. But there were holes in the floor, fiberglass patches all over the floor and frame, rhino lining in the trunk to hide stuff. The guy kept saying stupid things like " i get 266 hits on it a day" and I responded "so how come noone buys it" and he would give tons of other dumb comments.
He told me it had a Vic Richards racing tranny worth 3 grand and a transbrake, but it was a line LOCK! he was a fool. He told me it had 67 SS seats, they were morE like tractor seats! He was rude! the first thing he said was "wtf did you bring your whole family for?" and I responded with "you gotta problem?" We didn't even need to lift the car, it was horrible, I could even see the waviness in the rear quarters and the doors must have weighed 100 pounds with the amount of bondo on there!
It concluded with "did it pass your f-in inspection" and my father's answer was a solemn no! haha. I think from what he was saying about contracts and stuff that he gets kids to put deposits down, sign a contract and keep their money. He apprently is going to Florida next week for a job and that is why this was priced so low. I am gonna call him and I guarantee he will still be in the country!
so this is a SCAM people, if your in TO do not bother with this moron:noway:
(sorry if this is a bad grammar like ramble but I am kinda angry that I drove to mississauga for nothin! and this aint even half the BS this fool told me about this thing!)
mingles Dec 2nd, 08, 11:47 PM Good call on bringing reinforcements. From the sounds of it, you're probably right that he just assumed you were some dumb kid. Sad thing is, I'm sure he'll find somebody less informed than you who will pick it up. Good luck in your search
Pheadrus Dec 2nd, 08, 11:58 PM Hi Andrew
I read your posts and might have a car for you to check out. It's in a local paper that is also online. It's called "Northwest Buy & Sell" but it's in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The ad is for a 1970 Chevelle. the ad says "1970 Chevrolet Chevelle sb new chassis project car many new parts $3,900 obo 768-0715 / 251-1346. The area code here is 807. If you want I can probably go and check the car out for you and take some pics if your serious about the car. But please don't waste my time. I'm in the middle or a house reno and my father is very ill so time is in short supply. I don't mind helping because a bought my first Mustang(71 Mach 1) when I was 15 and paid too much because I was young and the seller was an a-hole. I don't know anything about the car so you'll have to call the owner and see if it's what your after. The only thing that sucks is the distance for you to come and get it but it sounds like a perfect project for you. I would recommend paying a garage locally to inspect the car for you if your interested. Let me know if you want me to look at it for you.
Good luck, Steve.
Chris R Dec 3rd, 08, 1:05 AM I would spread around there to all your car guy friends that this guy is a class A jackass. Im sure most people will see right through him. Sounds like the earlier comments on the engine problems ring true with this assclown.
andrew T Dec 3rd, 08, 9:12 AM Hey Steve check your PM's
As for the rest of us.
I don't many guys lookin for cars but I feel like posting a counter ad saying "ad number so and so is a scam" but I do not want to get involved.
I am lucky in that even though I am 19 I have knowledge in cars and I have a supporting father in the business. But what about other kids or adults who haven't a clue and they see it and see "dream car". That car would cost 25,000 bucks and alot of friggin work to get it back into proper shape.
It really sickens me how low some people will go to take your money right out of your pocket!
1badss396 Dec 3rd, 08, 9:15 AM Sounds like it would have been worth it for the drive to drop kick him in the nads:D
