Hopefully someone can steer me right. I have a knocking or ticking sound on the passenger side valve cover. I adjusted the rocker arms thinking it was a lifer out of adjustment, but no such luck. The question is: What else could it be? Maybe a bent pushrod, or a bad lifter. The noise increases with rpms. Any advice?
By the way, it's a 1966, 396 / 360 HP.
Thanks

Ticking lifters and small exhaust leaks almost sound alike. And sounds will travel all over an engine compartment. It could be an exhaust leak even though it sounds like it's coming from underneath the valve cover. A good muffler shop can check out the exhaust system for you.
On a big block, a fuel pump that going bad can also cause a slight knocking sound, according to those who own big blocks.

I had a similiar problem as you. Turned out the headers bolts were loose. Made some soap water and brushed a little around headers where they bolt to heads to see where it was blowing from. Leak found. Ticking noise gone.
