My GEN light came on today, just idling in my garage. What could this mean? Is my alternator going? The alt is a rebuilt from NAPA, and i put in a new regulator. If it is the alt. how do you convert to a higher amp alternator with an internal regulator, and bypass my external? oh I have a 1966 chevelle 396.
thanks,
frank

Good possibility that the alternator has a problem. Napa should be able to check it out for you. If you have a meter and want to do it yourself, post back. If you want to convert to an internal regulated alternator try Wes's instructions. http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref14.html

I bought a new Alt from summit, an delco SI 100amp by powermaster. Im looking for a higher amp alt than stock. I read the alt conversion from external to internal regulators, i dont know what the difference is between an SI and a CS alt? The amp that i bought says its a single wire and that it does not need a jumper wire from the internal regulator to to the alt battery post. Whats the difference between a single wire alt and not a single wire alt? non single wire alt needs a jumper wire from the internal reg VR plug? sorry for all the Q's, one more, it sounds like to me that i need to jump my external reg wires, (the two end wires), and just plug in the VR plug, without a jumper to the battery terminal on alt. does that sound right?
thanks,
Frank
