: I'm new here, I have a question
Michael Phelps Dec 1st, 08, 4:03 PM A question about rally wheel centers. Not knowing what the correct terms are, I will describe them in my lingo for this question. There are 2 types I am familiar with, the 1967 "flat caps", and the ones that stick out much further that came on everything? else the factory produced. I like the flat caps but I only have 2 left from the late 60s, but I have several of the others. I am not fond of the way these stick out so far, so now the question. Has someone come up with a piece to bolt to the stainless flat part of these that looks better and sticks out less than the factory pieces?
Thank you,
Mike

grandsport Dec 1st, 08, 4:53 PM Happy to see you dove right in to Team Chevelle! Always good to test the waters before doing anything to your car. :D
Derek69SS Dec 1st, 08, 5:22 PM Good thing your name isn't Michael Bolton. :D
I have seen at swap meets derby caps that are cut down about 1" and the back sides drilled & tapped to re-attach them so they don't stick out so far... They look better that way, but still they don't look as good as the '67 style "disc brake" caps.
Andy69 Dec 1st, 08, 5:45 PM I have seen repro Disc Brake caps on Ebay

I like the 67's too, I was gonna put a set on my 66 when I first got it, til I realized how original my car really was.

I thought someone would have a plastic piece that would look similar to the 67 disc brake cap bolt on center, that would bolt onto the "derby" stainless snap in cap part, whew what a mouth full. But NO! Well we need one, look at all the original big derby caps out there not being used!! It's a shame to let good stuff go unused. But even though I have several I won't use them, I will buy a new set of flat caps. Oh well, I tried.
Thanks,
Mike
DZAUTO Dec 1st, 08, 6:02 PM Mike,
As already mentioned above, there are shorter Derby centers available that you can buy seperately and attach them to your center caps.
Personally, like you, I also prefer the 67 style center caps. There are BOTH disc and non-disc 67 style center caps available. My 70 has drums, so I have the NON-disc style center caps on it.
