Any help would be appreciated tracing this problem:
The car: 69 Malibu 350
The symptoms: With lights off, passenger sider blinker works fine. Driver side blinker causes both rear flashers to flash. With lights on, again passenger blinker works fine, driver side blinker does not function. Turn signal shows solid green. Also, when I step on the brake the interior instrument cluster lights come on.
This all started after I replaced a burned out rear tail light, drivers side. Also replaced alternator few months ago.
I"ve replaced the flasher fuse and checked all other fuses. I'm not much of an electrician, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a bad ground, and or socket.

Thats the one you need to check. Most likely the bulb is not grounded. They are 2 filiment bulbs and share a ground. When the parking lights are off, the TS is grounding through the parking light. When the parking light is on, the ground is lost.

Thanks much!
Where would I find the ground wire for these bulbs? The only ground I see appears to come off the harness where it runs from the driver side to passenger in the trunk and grounds to a screw.
Or should I replace that socket?

A quick & easy way to clean out the socket is with a battery post brush. Just make sure the car & everything is OFF before you scrub!! You can also give the socket a very gentle squeeze with a pliers (throwing it just a bit out of round) to get good contact on the bulb shell.

The tailight sockets ground directly to the body, that ground screw is only for the sidemarker lights.
If the bulbs are loose in the sockets, you can also try a little blob of solder on the side of
the bulb itself to help ground them to the sockets.

A low voltage will also cause some KRAZY electrical issues. Be sure the battery isn't weak. I have been wiring my Camino with a Painless harness and they suggest using a 4-6 amp charger to energize the system and test circuits. When I'm powering the system on this little 6 amp battery tender, it acts almost exactly as you describe. When I connect the cables to the battery,, everything works and blinks perfectly. Well..... except the left rear when pushing the hazzard buttom. Really strange. The left rear blinks with the turn signal, works with the stop lights, but won't blink with the hazzard. But the 3 other corners work perfect. I guess if that's the worst think I have issue with,, I'll be a happy camper!
