Hi all,i have a 8.2 which i sourced from a 1967 Chevelle. It has a ,i think a Eaton diff, and 3.36 gears, however, the right axle has a severe backlash,is there a way to fix this? The backlash is very noticeable when the tyre is off the ground,at least 1/4 of an inch.I cannot imagine, the car is safe to drive like this.
Thanks all

Are you talking about axle end play, moving in and out? Most axle problems with the Eaton posi can be fixed by replacing the clutches or shimming the clutches. If you have excess axle end play or rotational movement then you need to check the clutches.

Hi,thanks for the replies, yes it is horizontal backlash,(wheel in and out).So there must be a time for new clutches, then

That is what we usually call axle end play. Also check the c clips for wear. This can add to the axle end play.
