I have had a Flowmaster 2 1/2" exhaust on my '70 for about a year now. It came with two styles of tailpipes, straight and turndown, I went with the turndowns, but have recently been thinking about adding the stock stlye SS tips. I could just cut the straight tialpipes to length and put them on, but the problem is that they are tucked up too far between the framerail and quarter. In fact thats why I originaly used the turndowns, so they didn't hit the rear valance. Did anyone else end up with their pipes being tucked up in that far using this kit? Any advice would be great. Thanks!

USMUSL,
I am not using the exhaust, but do you have a pic posted anywhere? I was thinking of going with turndowns on my 70 and would love to see what they look like.........

USMUSL,
I am using the same kit that you are using. With using the turn downs on it it does sit up nice and tight which is what I wanted with the system in the first place. To add the factory tips you would have to trim your tails to a straight edge and the have them slightly bent down ward right where they become paralle with teh ground you should be able to heat tehm with a torch to help in this procedure. should be too hard at all to do. I had to clearance my tails to fit the slicks on on side and was able to get an inch worth of clearance with some easy persuasian (sp). Hope this helps if not let me know I can be more sspecific.

Here's my '72 SS with the straight pipes, prior to trimming & install of my SS tips: http://www.72chevelless.com/071102-04.jpg
Here's a picture with the SS tips installed: http://www.72chevelless.com/072002-08.jpg
There was no bending involved, the straight pipe only needed to be cut to the proper length and the SS tips clamped on. No interference with the rear valence panel either. Good Luck!

As riskyvt said, I only had to cut off the straight pipes and mount the ss tips on my 70ss.

Thanks for all the replies! riskyvt, nice car! Mine are definatly tucked up in higher than yours, I wanted to stick the straight pipes in to cut them to size when I put the exhaust on, just to have them if I ever wanted to switch, but they wouldn't clear the rear valance. Where did you guys mount your rear hangers? I used what looked like the only factory holes, but my hangers are on a 45 degree angle which may be why it's so high up. Thanks! Jim
