This is for an 80 Malibu,TH350 with 2600-2800 flash 11" convertor,and 3.42 gears.Car currently has a small block,and weighs 3145 lbs.
Pretty much settled on these choices:

216 @ .050 .515/.515 110 LSA
221/233 @ .050 .500/.510 115 LSA
221/234 @.050 .500/.505 112 LSA
Intake will be a Performer,700 double pumper and small tube headers.
Heads are stock 049's,flat top pistons with a steel shim headgasket.

any thoughts?
Just a street cruiser

Without knowing all the specs, I'd probably go with the Crane 272 you mention. Shorter duration to increase the old DCR (or is that ECR :D ) and more lift. Liking the tighter LSA compared to the others...

Chris,

I ran a Crane 272 (??) in a stock '71 8.5/1 454 motor. Fairly sure it was 222/234 (.525/521) on 114 LSA - intalled at 4 degrees advanced - ICL of about 108. I think, keeping the ICL at 106 - 108 is key to those low compression motors.

Joe,did you use stock valve springs with this cam?

Chris,
I got some real good suggestions when I first bought the BBC back in june. Do a search on my sceen name. Harrold had some tested performers for a stock compression 454.
It had to be may-june of '04

I havn't done anything with the 454 yet, so keep me posted as I will tear into it after the new year.

Chris,

Most likely the springs were stock. Don't really remember, but they were single w/ damper that I had laying around. When I got the car it had the Chevy solid cam in it with dual springs [8.5/1 CR, 3.31 w/M22 and the factory solid w/ worn out stretched timing chain - talk about soggy bottum end!!]. Sounded real mean though! I just reinstalled some used big block springs that I had. We shimed them to about 110# seat and it worked fine.

There are two Crane 272 cams, 272/272 Energizer on 110/105 and 272/284 Powermax on 112/107.
