: Thanksgiving Football
SebJr Nov 28th, 08, 5:23 PM Really sucked yesterday, I for one think it's time to switch it up and have some other teams start hosting the games on Turkey day or use a flex schedule.
This week they coulda had Skins/ Giants and Steelers/ Pats switched to yesterday , they would have been able to see a few weeks ago that these were big games and flexed them.
What do you guys think ??
Elcoman Nov 28th, 08, 5:30 PM Keep the Cowboys, but flex other teams.
DallasMalibu Nov 28th, 08, 5:33 PM Got to keep the Cowboys playing on Thanksgiving, flexing the others would probably make sense....
Peloose Nov 28th, 08, 5:37 PM I'd like to see the teams rotated. We have almost 20 people over every Thanksgiving, that makes it hard to watch it all day. I would rather see a key matchup on days I have a better chance of not running around for guests. Cowboys should be rotated, literally!:D

Gee.... I'm shocked, the biggest Cowboy fan on the board and Dallas Malibu say keep the Boys on Thanksgiving !!:D

I get yelled at every year for doing just the opposite. ;)

I was waiting for you to say the Steelers should play on Turkeyday.:D
SebJr Nov 28th, 08, 5:44 PM The games were so bad yesterday.... we actually put the NFL Network on, they had a top 10 most feared hitters on.... good stuff

Ken Hamlin and Roy Williams. Who were the other 8?:D

There were no Cowboys :noway:... besides, I said feared hitters... not dirty players/hitters! ;) :D
Elcoman Nov 28th, 08, 5:51 PM There were no Cowboys :noway:
LIES!!!:D
really?!?!!?
Bunz-T Nov 28th, 08, 5:53 PM The cowboys have probably the largest world wide following of any team. Advertisers like it just like it is. To really raise revenues a marquee match up to go with them would probably be just the ticket.
Detroit needs to be rotated off TV all together except for their local market.
sg5492 Nov 28th, 08, 5:57 PM I would like to watch Football on Thanksgiving, but I'm at my In~Laws most of the day and they are not in to sports :(
rwagner59 Nov 28th, 08, 6:05 PM I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly the NFL was looking for a couple of teams to play on Thanksgiving Day back in the 60's or 70's... The Lions and Cowboys were the only teams that showed a lot of interest and got the games.
When the realignment came about with the expansion teams and some other teams showed some interest, (Money) the Detroit and Dallas teams kept the games through the negotiations.
Lots of money changes hands in those 2 games and it seems some teams had the foresight to secure the rights to play them.....That's how it is for now and the Cowboys won once again!:hurray::beers:
Live with it or watch I Love Lucy until it changes.....:D
00WS6TA Nov 28th, 08, 6:05 PM Flex the Thanksgiving games to key matchups
L72Chevelle Nov 28th, 08, 6:44 PM Flex the Thanksgiving games to key matchups
This one has my vote.

Make that 3...
If you rotated the games, the rest of the team owners will be complaining that they have to play 2 games in 4 days. :)
I know there has been a big turn around in ownership, but with Detroit not being competitive for years...I say rotate that game. Well, they are competitive only when I think Dallas will destroy them. :(
This is the only way I know of Thanksgiving Football...I of course say to keep Dallas playing.

This is exactly how it came about. NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle approached the entire league looking for teams to play on Thanksgiving. Most teams declined the request flat out, and only a couple of franchises showed any interest at all. Dallas was the most interested along with Detroit. That is why it is the way it is today. Besides, shouldn't America's Team play on on such a festive American holiday?

Only if they make crybaby.....er TO stay home!

Let it go...just let it go. Neither is going to happen. :)
SebJr Nov 29th, 08, 8:34 AM I'd like to see this years ratings vs years past.... I'm sure we weren't the only household in America that switched the games off. We all know it's the $$$ that drives the NFL's decision making.:(
1971 Chevelle Nov 29th, 08, 8:37 AM Man the Lions are bad.

They will be 0-16

Hey! Give us a break, will ya?! They need to be rotated off tv locally here in Detroit too!! :D
oktunes Nov 29th, 08, 10:17 AM Even though they had sucky games, they probably ran in the background of many homes. The real interest factor had to be low, but ratings will probably be OK since that was all we had to watch. I didn't watch any, just some of the high lights. If there had been a great matchup, I would have made a point to watch. Maybe it is time to get a couple SEC college teams signed up for Thanksgiving day!
I also saw on one show the Pats are favored over the Steelers. Is that right? I am surprised, although, the Pats look to be getting their season back together. I am a fan, but thought they were getting a little too old, but maybe they will still finish strong, even though they may not go all the way.
The Cowboys...not my team, but they might have it all together by the end of the season. Be good to get all the 6-6 teams out and start the playoffs. Do many of you guys remember the great playoffs in the 70's and 80's. I didn't miss a game then and knew who every player was on every team and how they played. Now guys switch teams every other year and it is hard to have that connection with a team. It was great back then.
Cowboys, Giants, Redskins battled it out every year. Bengals, Steelers, Browns (real Browns) and the Oilers beating up on everybody and each other. Staubach, Theisman, Simms, Kosar, Anderson, Bradshaw, Pastorini, those qb's probably all belong in the best 100 to ever play the game. I guess I live in the past!
PaPa Johns 77 Nov 29th, 08, 11:15 AM We turned off the game and watched movies instead!

Nah, you just know your history. It's a sign of a true fan and not some band-wagoner
By the way, last night the NFL Nework ran a piece that claimed Detroit has been playing their Thanksgiving day game since- get this- 1934.
LS_5 Nov 29th, 08, 1:28 PM Personally, I think NFL games should only be played at 1:00 and 4:15 on Sundays and one game on Monday Nights. Period. Even the play-off games. No Sunday or Thursday night games. No Thanksgving games.
Not sure why the Turkey day thing got started to begin with, but few people can declare a football only focus amidst family on a holiday. Just as well they were games not worth watching. "Sorry Uncle Joe. Haven't seen you in 12 months, but I need to take the next 9+ hours out of our visit today to watch 3 football games"!
No Flex scheduling either. I'm a season ticket holder and don't think my schedule should be dictated by a bunch of TV network execs. Set the game date and time before the season starts and that's it. If TV wants to broadcast key match-ups only, so be it. They need to flex their schedule at the end of the season to put the games they view as key for a national audience!
We have two 1:00 Sunday home games this year. The first and last games (Houston and Cleveland). Really Sucks, IMO.

Do we have to start another "Andy is wrong thread"?

I think so. Why would you want to keep Detroit on Thanksgiving?? I'm from "The D" and I and a whole lot of other Detroiters dont want the Lions on Thanksgiving anymore!
SebJr Nov 30th, 08, 8:38 AM Well , we know at least 9 Cowboy fans have voted :D

OK, just have Dallas and Detroit play each other, then the second game can be a real one. :)
