lloydt2442 Nov 27th, 08, 9:53 PM :bow::bow: those are beautiful cars!!
rayzer666 Nov 27th, 08, 9:59 PM Too late I am clicking buy it now, right now.(ha-ha)
Andy69 Nov 27th, 08, 10:11 PM wouldn't that be "zeeing" double? arr arr arr :)
Enforcer505 Nov 27th, 08, 10:39 PM to bad the market is in the hole right now. but i cant justify spending that on a mid 60s car anyways :S i;m more into the 68-74 model muscle ;)
MalibuSeaS Nov 27th, 08, 10:50 PM It don't get much better than that. I was going to buy them but I really wanted 3, so I think I'll let this deal go. :D
mmurphy77 Nov 27th, 08, 11:03 PM I like the nice way he put restamped block - "correct numbers were re-established..."
Les Saville Nov 28th, 08, 12:14 AM Seems like alot of money to pay for a "restamed", wonder what the price would be if both cars had the original blocks! :D :noway:
oktunes Nov 28th, 08, 6:28 AM surprised they admitted to re-stamping the block!
depley Nov 28th, 08, 7:38 AM I am not quite sure why this guy has a buy now price of $750,000. Given that the last Z16s on Barrett Jackson were selling in the 170K range the 750K seems quite high.
hmm maybe this is just getting them out there and we of course see these cars on Barrett Jackson next month, that would be my bet. But no way they bring close to 750K, in this market 400K might be hard to come by for the pair.
d1_bradley Nov 28th, 08, 7:52 AM At the last Russo-Steele in Monterey a Yellow one went to $190k with a no sale. Auction stated that the bid was DOUBLE current book value. Owner would not lower reserve. Probably see it in Scottsdale in Jan. Lots of stuff showing up these days, guess people are having to cover some "calls" on their other investments...............

I'd like to know what the his RESERVE on them is.
Second_chance_SS Nov 28th, 08, 8:23 AM I don't understand why he is selling them as a pair. How may people want 2 or have the funding to purchase both. Don't prices usually DROP when buying in quantity....:D Even if I was in the market for one, I would pass on them. I don't care for Black on Red and I don't think they look good with vinyl tops....:(

I suspect it makes it easier to get a higher price for the restamp by making a buyer purchase both, then the new owner is strapped with trying to get an over premium price for a restamp Z-16.
oldtimebaseballfan Nov 28th, 08, 9:23 AM I agree with DeWayne. I think this auction is to get some attention and controversy going before the big auctions in Scottsdale in January.
Although they are 2 very nice Zs, the 750k price is high for this market.
He put the buy it now at a high price knowing the cars won't sell at that price.
RT468 Nov 28th, 08, 10:38 AM Not sure which is more shocking, admission of restamp,or that for 750k seller won't pay for shipping. One would think with that markup he'd have the decency to pay for shipping, maybe a dinner or two and maybe send buyers youngest child to a mediocre college of their choice. At least offer some kind of a reach around... Hoping this ad was just a fishing expedition or cheap publicity for a future auction.

# 24 (as they refer to it in the auction) has the original born with block with original stamp. It was separated from the car for years but was reunited (thanks to the efforts of Terry Gunter) prior to restoration.
The original block to #54 (as they refer to it in the auction) was in the NCOA giveaway car, and has since been decked and restamped to match the giveaway car (an absolute shame). The #54 car was believed to be lost forever, and suddenly surfaced at a cruisein in CA being driven by an 80 year old man who had had it in his basement since 1968.
So the block in #54 is a restamp, done to match the legit protect-o-plate that is with the car. I think that's OK as long as it is disclosed, as the seller has done in this case. The danger is whether or not the next owner will disclose it!!
SWHEATON Nov 28th, 08, 4:47 PM BEATIFULL CARS!!!!!!!!
Gee,at least they look nice and have a drivetrain, what about the 63 pontiac tempest that just sold for $226,000 with no motor or trans, its 1 of like 6 or 8 factory race cars built by GM/Pontiac in 63 to do battle on the strip circut to boost sales, from what i understand they supposedly cleaned house for the yr at the strip with tweaked SD 421's posing as 398's,but i am not 100% sure thats correct. I would imagine a tweaked SD/421 putting out at least 500hp/500lbs trq would clean house in a class meant for 389s in such a light car & evena tweaked 389 in that car would do well too.
Here's the ebay item # (110306170567) to search to see the horribly ugly stripped 63 Pontiac Tempest with no motor or trans that went for $226,000,looks like these 2 chevelle will be a real good buy compaired to that thing.
I thought i read somewhere that 1 of the 6-8 factory built Pontiac 63 tempest race cars left that was restored recently went for over $700k. If thats true no wonder this crappy looking thing with no motor/trans sold for so much $,restore it for $100k-150k & have approx $326k-$376k in a car worth approx $700k in right place/time/market . Or maybe if would bring measly $450k-500k in bad market like these days. Thats still makes $75k-$125k clean profit after resto which still isnt bad to me,but maybe its not enough profit for somoeone with money.
