Compared to a coupe, it may seem steep but convertibles seem to be worth their weight in gold these days.

I'm not sure I buy into the sellers story about not knowing anything about cars. Does it seem odd to anyone else that out of all the "beat up, worn down parts" there is a shiny cowl induction air cleaner with the LS6 sticker on it? The car does seem to have a lot of SS parts on it but that big block steering shaft also sure looks to be in a lot better condition than the surrounding frame and and control arms. Same goes for the sway bar. It also looks like the radiator support is for a 3-bolt top plate and not the 4-bolt.

I think the seller is hoping that people will see an LS6 convertible and pay for it accordingly. I won't be surprised to see this go a lot higher. In reality, it looks like a convertible that needs a lot of work to me!

I paid substantially more than $13k for my 70 convertible about 7 years ago however it was in "decent driver" shape with a fresh 454. I can also tell you that I've put about half again as much into the car since I bought it and still have a huge amount of work (and $'s) to put into this car to get it to where I want it. This ain't a cheap hobby and convertibles seem to command a premium.

That my 2 copper coins worth on the subject...

you should know it will take between $8,000-$20,000 to bring this car back into shape that you would be proud of.
may want to continue the search as the better the starting point the easier the recondition and shorter down time.
i restored my 68-convertible over a 7-10 year period, and when it was done (almost) i could have spent another $10,000 on it taking the nice car up a level to a real nice car. :)

I agree with Dana. The steering shaft looks like it has recently been painted or ...

Why would that be the only part that was cleaned and painted.

He also is wanting people to be thinking of reasons for it to be an LS6 with that air cleaner.

For the amount of work to be done and it not having any factual proof of an SS, I think it is already at it's high point in terms of price.

It does not matter to me rather it is a SS car, almost all the hard to find items seem to be there, steering shaft,12 bolt posi and arms and sway bars, tach dash and seats and console, cowl hood, wheels etc.Cloned it still would be worth a ton of bucks. The time trying to hunt all that up would worth paying big money I think?

To get that car looking correct will take 30k+ and who knows how many hours but I promise it will be measured in thousands and not hundreds. I would think you would be much better off in todays market to buy one done. I'm not saying you couldn't peice it together cheaper but if you want it to look correct it will take some $$$$$$$$$$$. The old saying it will take twice the money and four times the time you think it'll take is true. I think the majority of the guys here will tell you the same. If your married, between the time and the money, you would be lucky if your marriage lasted to see the car completed. After all that you've got a car that has 40 to 45k in it and a ton of time that would be worth in todays market 35k if nicely done correct. Question for ya. If you have a 70 drop top already why do you want another? Is yours in worse shape? You might hold your cost down if you've got a ton of parts already.

 The original poster never stated he owned a drop top. (I think I was the only one that stated that and I was responding to him...)

I have talked to the guy today and yesterday on the phone,I think i can buy this car cheaper and have him end the auction as he is just about had enough of the nasty e-mails that people have sent,he just wants the car gone, suppose to hear back from him tonight!!!He has been out of town and still is,but with the car only 20 miles away and have seen it,it is something i can work with as you just don't see many 70 converts just laying around.

i'm with the people who think this is already too high. yeah, it's got some nice parts, but with no docs and needing so much rust repair i can't see paying this kind of money.

i'm suspicious of the 'i'm not a car guy...' part. the ad is sure written like someone who is a car guy. also it's a brand new ebay account, hmm...

i'd say this is about a $7-$8k car in todays market being partially disassembled and needing everything.
