: Dutchman Motorsports Axles
PCB67SS Nov 27th, 08, 10:20 AM Does anyone have any feedback on their products?.....I haven't been able to find any replacement axles that are only drilled for 5 lug studs anywhere else (aftermarket have 10)...Spoke to them the other day and they said they can custom make a set in 3 or 4 days what ever you need.
www.dutchmanms.com
I guess their server is down as I cant get the link to work currently.
shadowgray396 Nov 27th, 08, 2:18 PM Bill, I have Dutchman axles in my 12 bolt for my 70 Chevelle and I agree I didn't want 10 stud holes either. They were recommended by my rearend guy. They fit great and I have had no problems. They are only located about 20 minutes from my house. Most all the car guys in our area use them

VinceS427bb Nov 27th, 08, 2:39 PM i twisted the splines on both of mine enough that when the Auburn posi-disintegrated, i had to destory what was left of the unit to get the c-clips off the end of the axle assembly. :(
this was with only 400-rwhp. :(
PCB67SS Nov 27th, 08, 8:46 PM Thanks Ray and Vince for sharing your experiences....Ray I was following your restoration project for months but hadn't seen any post as of late and wasn't sure if you were driving it yet?.....Vince do you believe the posi failure caused the rear to lock up and twist the axles?
tlowe Nov 27th, 08, 9:05 PM moser will make axles with only 5 holes. i just got a set for a texan. tom
PCB67SS Nov 27th, 08, 9:15 PM Tom how would I go about picking up a set of those.....Can I order them direct or would it be better to use a vendor? Thanks for the info Tom are you a vendor of their products?
VinceS427bb Nov 27th, 08, 10:14 PM Thanks Ray and Vince for sharing your experiences....Ray I was following your restoration project for months but hadn't seen any post as of late and wasn't sure if you were driving it yet?.....Vince do you believe the posi failure caused the rear to lock up and twist the axles?
:noway:no - i had slicks on the car 10.5x28x15 and it was hooking hard enough to pull both the front wheels about 6-9 inches high when launched @ 5600-rpm.
had lots of fun until metal fatigue in the posi crashed the party:yes:
airrj Nov 27th, 08, 10:26 PM I used a set of Dutchmans about 15 years ago in an 8.5" A-body stock car rear. We only made 325 hp but we would snap RR axles off just outside of the outboard wheel bearings from the lateral loads (and sometimes from encouragement from the bumpers of our competitors). We ran the Dutchman axles for many season without incident. We were happy with them.
PCB67SS Nov 27th, 08, 10:31 PM Thanks Vince for the update....My sled wont be getting the wheels of the ground unless I hit a speed bump going about 80mph.....:p I'm not sure I even need new axles but I figured it wouldn't hurt to replace them anyway as its the only part of the drivetrain I haven't overhauled yet. I was told by Dutchman that they needed a measurement sheet filled out prior to ordering so I guess I'll have a good idea of the bearing surfaces soon enough...Thanks again.......
tlowe Nov 27th, 08, 11:37 PM i am not exactly direct with moser. but i do get them cheaper than most people can. you best bet is to get them thru summit racing. the shipping will save you money. they are an excellant part. tom
shadowgray396 Nov 28th, 08, 2:52 AM Bill , you are correct I have not tested my axles in my 12 bolt yet. I have had friends run them in other applications with no problems. I know when I puchased my axles they asked me what my intent was for them, how much horse power I was running, gear ratio. They were rated stronger then my original stock axles that I replaced.

PCB67SS Nov 28th, 08, 8:43 AM Geesh the fun never ends....Couldn't sleep....to much eating yesterday I believe...LOL
Well after 3 hours of reading I am more confused than ever. One minute I'm thinking Moser, then Alloy USA (made in India I believe), then Dutchamn......Can a person just not order a stock replacement axle with 5 lugs that studs fit and not have to grind the buttons down on. If the stock buttons are .312 why would they sell them at .354. Maybe I'll just leave the rear alone today and rebuild the brakes and save the axles for a rainier day.....Thanks for all the advice guys.......Ray I know you are doing a super job on your car and look forward to seeing the finished product.....As do you I'm sure.
shadowgray396 Nov 28th, 08, 9:05 AM Bill, the last time I checked the stock axles were still available from GM. They were a little costly if I recall correctly. www.oldmusclecars.com shows them as a item you have to call about in their catalog (1-800-722-4828 Moden Chevrolet). Item Number 747GM on page 5-29. Also thank you for your kind words about the car. It's been a 3 years of a love hate relationship putting my car back together. All of the body work is almost finished. I'm going out today to do some block sanding on the left rear quarter.

pdq67 Nov 28th, 08, 1:35 PM How about Superior axles?
Strange??
pdq67
PCB67SS Nov 28th, 08, 9:16 PM Ray I had already called Modern Chevrolet and was told they had been out of the GM axles for years, but I called and re checked again today.
Paul I just checked Mark Williams, Strange, and Tom's differentials and all are drilled for both 7/16 press in studs and 1/2 screw in studs. I'm not sure about Superior but I will check them also. I'm going to give Moser a call on Monday and see what they offer they were closed today for the Holidays.....Thanks
PCB67SS Dec 3rd, 08, 4:46 PM Finally got around to calling Moser and they will make replacement axles with just the 5 press in studs. I also ask about the buttons and he said they would be .312. So all is good thanks alot guys.
tlowe Dec 3rd, 08, 9:09 PM i can say i told you so. i buy them all the time. great product. tom
PCB67SS Dec 4th, 08, 6:57 AM Tom you were right on the money.......Thanks for the tip.......
