Are cast cranks able to withstand 600hp/ftlbs all motor? Would the stock cast crank/rods be able to handle that much? Thanks a lot,
Chris

The cast crank in a 307 SBC probably wouldn't stand up to that much stress, but a 454 crank might.

It is going to be a 460 if I use the stock crank/rods and my engine guy says the will, but I don't know anything about cranks, so thats why I am here.

A Scat should, but do you think the stockers will too?

Is the car NA or is it going to be supercharged/juiced?

I think if NA then it should be OK depending on RPMs..

I hit my cast crank 454 with alomst 800 hp a few times (nos) and 625 hp and 7000 rpms many times, no problems.

Depends on how old it is and it's history. Everything has a limited number of duty cycles at different stress levels - do you know how many more this one has? If it was a low RPM engine that wasn't terribly high mileage, it's probably fine. On the other hand, if it's led a life of being beaten on frequently, you might want to consider another. My .02

It is N/A. NO supercharger or juice, and nothing above 5500-6000. I really don't know much on the history, but the guy who is building it has a warranty, so I guess I am safe. Thanks for the input guys,
Chris

i spun my 396 up to 7000+ a few times by accident because the rev limiter chip was broken and i hammered it in 1st... it has a cast crank....

I've got a 2-bolt main block, cast crank and stock 3/8 rods with ARP bolts and am making close to 700 HP with a Procharger supercharger and haven't had any problems.

A friend used to run a cast crank in a 460 CI Big Block Camaro, 12.1 Comp, solid cam with Alum. Heads. He ran a two-stage Nitrous plate system, each pushing 125 hp. Ran in the mid 10's and never had a problem.

Hot Rod magazine put a 600 hp nitrous shot on a 350 stock 2 bolt and the crank lived. Pistons whent to piston heaven, but it didn't break the crank or rods.

The limiting factor in any metal fatigue is not HP ( assuming the part is defect free to start with), it is extreme RPM, lack of balancing and detonation.
