I have had my chevelle sitting in the garage for about a month now, i have started it every week. But today i finally took it out for a spin. As im driving not even a mile from my house and not even 5 minutes from when i started it the temp was at 190 and climbing. I was able to pull into a parking lot a and by time im parked the temp was at 230 and rising. i let the car cool off. In this time i was checking the engine, the radiator was cool on the left side and somewhat warm on the right, the upper radiator hose was hot, and the engine was super hot. there is flow across the radiator, when i have the cap removed and squeeze the pipes water moves. I had put in a new 160 thermostat about 2 months ago and havent had problems till today.

Is my thermostat stuck or has my water pump stoped working? these are the only two posibilities i can think of.

One other possibility - trapped air in the system. But if you've started it every week (assuming you warmed it up) that's highly unlikely.

I'd change the thermostat again, personally - it's cheap and easy, even if the real problem is the water pump.

Start with the thermostat, I seen new ones that have failed.

check your level, then replace the thermostat, then water pump. After that maybe the radiator is clogged?
