Have been pretty excited about the car since the last trip to the track. Running consistant times for ET and 60'ft's. I got in touch with a local legend around here........ Dale Snelson. He is the carb guru for sure. Had a short conversation with him on the phone about my combo / performance / carb / ignition advance / curve. He was almost as exicited as me telling me he could GAR- RUN- TEE performance increase that will show on my time slips. The "Old Man" is going to take a look at the car this evening, and come up with the game plan for the 770 Avenger carb, I will post his reccomendations. If I can whack a tenth from my sixty's it's an 11 second car!!!!!!!! Looking forward to having a chat with this guy, drag racing since the 60's and currently into the circle track stuff. Too Cool. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Oh Yeah, all this for parts and 50 bucks. I argued, he would not here of charging a "fair price" for his time. Hell, the two hours I spent talking with the guy was worth more than he is willing to charge me. I will have the carb back when I return in a few weeks, will post inital impression of the changes.

Dropped the carb off today, spent awhile talking about the car / carb. He has several mods in mind. Acelerator pump, Nozzles, jetting, toss the electric choke, change front power valve, vac advance tuning. Will replace the viton needle and seat (not ET related) for stainless. Pulled some plugs, he checked them with his scope. Way lean by his inspection. He was interested in the whole car, time slips, build sheet. Says that right now I am on first base, he can get me to third. After the carb is worked over, he's gonna do a little test and tune with me on the street. He's even offered to make the trip to the strip to dail every thing in. Too bad I will have to wait for spring of next year to get some new time slips as the track will be closed by the time I will have a chance to run it again this year. We did jave a conversation about tuning at the track, jet swaps. He said that more often than not he's able to hit the jetting on the first try. After the correct jetting is achieved he likes to vary the total timing for weather in lieu of carb changes. The guy love cars, lives carbs, and is great to spend a little time with. He showed me a thing or two about reading plugs, and now I have a little project to take care of in the way of indexing them. Also, he sugguests that I not use the vac advance at the track, rely on mech only and get the curve all in sooner than the current 3000 rpm. Little things count. All I want for Xmas is one tenth off my sixties!!!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Craig,
Sounds like you have found a good person to work with. Too bad, you will not get a chance to see what the changes will do at the strip.

I would like to get mine to the strip some time, just to see what it would do. I wouldn't expect too much with the 4-speed and street tires, but it would be fun to try anyway.

Hey Bill when you going, I assume WIR, I'd love to see your car run, gotta pull for those chevelles. I want to try to get mine out there yet this year, Broke it first trip down the track last year so I'm a little hesitant. The new engine I built for it has me excited to see what I can get, friends that race say she should go 11s, man that would make sittin' through the snow a little easier. Good Luck with your carb craig hope you get all your looking for and bill let me know if your going to go, See Ya Jeff

Jeff, Yes, WIR would be the place. I am trying to talk some of my friends here into also going for some moral support as I have never done it before. Most likely it won't be until next year the way it looks now.

AK69, I spent two years at Elmendorf AFB, next door to Anchorage during the early years of my life. Even got to experience a monster earthquake on good Friday, 1964. I don't remember the weather getting too cold until mid-late October. When do they close the strip? Both years i was there it was bitterly cold in November and warmed up and rained thru December and then came January, zero in the day, -30 at night for the next 5 months

Labor day week end is the last of the season :( . I return to work today and gone for two weeks, bummer. The track could stay open through September for sure. The weather is pretty much "winter like" by mid October. I cant complain about the weather this summer, has been very nice as we have set many new records for temp, most consecutive days above 70, very little rain. One thing about the winter...........plenty of time for bench racing and tweaking on the car (I love my garage!!!!)
