Thanks for the help on the heads for my Nova. I Ended up going with the dart iron eagle 180's and they work great. No time slips yet, but can realy notice the extra power. I was wondering what power I might be making. I'm only 20 yo but still hoping for 400+ hp for my daily driver. Not bad for my first engine and still in college.

sb 355
about 10.5 to 1 with 64cc chambers(I think)
zero-decked
balanced
blue printed
flat top pistons
xtreme energy 268 cam (.477''/.480'' lift, 224/230 dur)
1.6 magnum rockers on intake and 1.5 on exhaust
k-motion valve springs
dart iron eagle heads
180cc intake and 64cc chambers
2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves
holley dual plane intake
holley 650 db
accel hei and wires
1 5/8 long tube headers
full 2.5in exhause with x-pipe
super t-10 trans (just installed with the heads)
3.42 posi 10 bolt

Please give hp @ engine and @ wheels if you can.
Thanks,
Dave R.

I punched in all of your specs and here is what Desktop Dyno came up with:

379 Peak Horsepower @ 5500RPMs
410 Peak Torque @ 4000RPMs

Looks like a great combo but I would really watch out for detonation. Thats too much compression for a daily driver with iron heads. Be very careful on a hot day. Keep some octane boost with you just in case.

With cast pistons, would a 150 shot be reasonable???

I had almost the exact same combo when I built my first engine (I was 18), I didnt have it zero decked, and with 91 oct. I didnt have a problem with pinging, if I kept the timing where it needed to be.

So, with a zero deck, and the right head gasket, you will be fine.

I ended running some low 9's in the 1/8th with that combo. Pretty good for a heavy car.

Oh, and those heads are great, im running 7.6's(72 chevelle, full weight) with them on my new engine, and havent even dialed it in yet!!!

I havent tryed any NO2 yet on either of them.

you should like it,
talk to ya later, mark

I would not use N20 with cast pistons...but if you do..keep it to a 100 shot. retard the timing..make sure you have adequate fuel pressure and flow..check the plugs after each run. I have used N20 with cast pistons...it lasted a couple of seasons..I ran a 150 shot..and checked every thing as I mentioned..(at first) When I had no problems..run after run..I got lazy.. and stopped doing the advised checks..and broke a piston. Forged pistons aren't that expensive..and allow you a little cushion if somethings not right.

cast piston will last for years with under 150 shot of nitrous...lol been there done that.........and i dont think it was luck ....one of my other friends ran a bone stock 4 cylinder in a 86 summer set with 75 hp shot to the motor......i have ran stock motors with over 100,000 miles on them with nitrous......non of the pistons gave way sure i might have lost a bearing or so but no signs of piston wear...........there alot myths out there about nitrous......and everyone goes by what they hear and not do.......if it was my motor sure the heck would run 150 and not loose any sleep......its all in the tune up........dont run it lean......and keep an eye on the plugs........

what does a low 9 in the eighth translate to in the quarter?

'Gun, the conversion formula that I have always used is 1.57 for e.t. and 1.26 for mph.

So, 9 flat becomes 14.13 in the 1/4 mile, and low 9's become ~ mid 14's.

Thomas that's pretty handy, thanks for claering that up. I've been really watching this post because my combination is/will be nearly identicle since I'm dropping in my new engine/trans either this week or next week. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
