: Anybody up on 55 chevy
driver Feb 20th, 05, 7:40 PM Im getting ready to more than likely buy a 55 chevy and never paid to much about the difference in the two types of 55's.This is a two door post car and was wondering how the two compare to each other when it comes to money? The non post car the most wanted? Can anybody help?
Thanks Driver
69ssmike Feb 20th, 05, 7:58 PM Not sure about money difference but I believe the non post cars are more desireable.
driver Feb 20th, 05, 8:10 PM Thank You! Thats what I was thinking.
hoffbug Feb 20th, 05, 8:10 PM www.chevytalk.org (http://www.chevytalk.org) has several tri-five forums.. Its one of the best sources Ive found for info.
Rick Bandy Feb 20th, 05, 8:23 PM Having owned three 55 210 sedans in the past, I always liked the 210 post because it was lighter than the BelAir hardtop. I was more interested in weight do to the racing side of the picture but a BelAir will bring more money when it is restored.
driver Feb 20th, 05, 8:35 PM Thanks, that helps a lot.I like the fast/race stuff myself more than show. That's what this is for.Pro street/race 55 chevy two door post.Has a 605 merlin with a 871 BDS on top.Are the two cars the same in length? Thanks again!BILL Nice looking chevelle.
Wheels68 Feb 20th, 05, 8:41 PM They are the same overall length but the rooflines are different. The non-post (hardtop) model has a shorter and lower roof than the post (sedan) model. If you look at the filler between the rear rear glass and the trunk you will see the difference. The hardtop has about a 6 inch filler while a sedan has about 2-1/2 inches. This is becaus the roof is longer on a sedan.
sschevellefan Feb 21st, 05, 12:49 PM I had a 56 belair ex racer at one time and for racing, the post cars are lighter as Rick said plus if you do it right, the post will kinda hide the roll bar. if it was just a cruiser, you can`t beat the look of a hardtop with the windows rolled down. the hardtops are more desireabe and usually cost more. I sure wish I kept my car but it would have cost to much to return it back to street duty.
driver Feb 21st, 05, 1:37 PM I know what you mean by hiding the roll cage. It's got a 10 point but it's hard to see it. The car looks almost stock which will make a nice sleeper. The inner fenders are four inches longer so you can get a bigger tire on it.It's black on black, nine inch ford, ladder bar set-up&
coil-overs.Stock dash with a bench seat.I'll know
more this WEN'S when I do the walk around and test drive it.I'll have some pic's if I bring her home.BILL
MileHiSS Feb 21st, 05, 11:33 PM I've got two 55 Belair hardtops and one 57 hardtop. My brother has a 55 model 150 2 door sedan. The sedan body has more drag racing appeal, but the hardtop is usually more costly. As mentioned earlier the modified forum on www.chevytalk.org (http://www.chevytalk.org) is is great forum and we've answered almost every questioned asked about tri fives. Pay it a visit. You'll be welcome.
driver Feb 22nd, 05, 6:14 AM Thanks MILEHISS for the info and web-site.I only ask one question about a 55 chevy. You act as tho
I keep asking questions but I only ask one.
On the other hand if I had another question I
would ask.BILL
MileHiSS Feb 22nd, 05, 4:06 PM Bill, I don't want you to think you shouldn't ask questions. As they say, the only stupid question, is the one that never gets asked. My reference to questions being answered over and over, is that the members of ChevyTalk Tri Five modified forum get the same questions asked, when ever a new member joins the site. It's similar to the question," how do you tell if a Chevelle is a real SS?"
You do not get blown off, because you have a simple or a complex question that may be obvious to some, or not obvious to others. Good Luck
driver Feb 22nd, 05, 5:49 PM Not a problem, this jerk that has the 55 chevy just called and sold it to someone eles after i dealt with him all this time.Talk about being pissed off.OH WELL
Ron_Long Feb 22nd, 05, 7:20 PM BUMMER. I had that happen to me with a 66 ChevyII SS. Go with the post for racing. 2DHTs are hard to beat for looks. I've had my 2DHT for 26 years now. Sence 1979, it has had 4 motors and running a Weiand 671 blower sence 1982. This is a 4 speed car. Not sure, but I think it's weight was 3440 lbs and with the blower and few other items. Weight went to 3640lbs.
Good luck in finding the right one.
Ron
