I'm not sure where it was better to post this, so please bare with me. I just won a bid on a G Tech for $20 and I need my cig lighter to work. I don't smoke or anything, so I've never had any use for it up until now. I had a fuse in it but it still didn't work. What do I have to do? Do I just buy a new lighter? Or is it in the wiring, if any? Thanks for the input graemlins/beers.gif

Make sure it's plugged in....I think there's an orange wire with a blue plug that plugs in at the fuse block.

Also make sure it's plugged in the back of the cigar lighter socket and ensure the inside of the socket isn't corroded.

Ok, I gotta check out the "connections" in front and in back. I haven't messed with it and don't believe anyone else has messed with it. My uncle orignially bought the car from the original owner who had gotten hit on the passenger side and parked the car for years until my unlce bought it in ~90-91, he drove it for 3 months then parked it for another 8 years until I "took" it from him ;) :D

Yeah - obviously check your wiring first - make sure you have 12 volts at the lighter. Also, there is a grounding ring that sandwiches between the lighter housing and the dash - make sure it's there and your housing is grounded. I had to replace the housing on mine. I first just went to Autozone and bought one for $2.99 off the shelf and found it was too small for the original element. SURPRISE - the original (up through '77) requires a Rochester housing for which you have to pay about $25 from a catalog supplier! Of course, if you don't care about the originality of the lighter knob, you can just replace it with just about anything.

Well if worse comes to worse and I have to replace it, I'll just get any kinda to replace it. The 'Velle was made plain jane with a 307, so it doesn't really matter. Thanks for the input guys, and if there's anything else to check or look for, please let me know.

Got an old one you can have if that's the problem. They usually don't go bad though.

Let me check mine out first, then I'll let you guys know what happened. I'm just waiting for my wife to get home from work...I can't leave our daughter alone in the house while I go outside to work on the car...she's only 3!!! :D

Let me know by email if you need it. Nobody I know even pulls these at junkyards because only the elements in the removable lighter go bad.

Well I went out there a lil while ago and messed with it. I couldn't see the back of the lighter because I have the heater box and hoses in the way, along with all the wiring  I put in a 25amp fuse in the fuse box, it says to use 20amp, and it worked! To my suprise it actually worked. I used to have a 20amp fuse in it and it never worked. I ended up taking the fuse out because I blew the radio fuse and needed it tongue.gif Only problem now is, my lighter doesn't pop out. It stays stuck in there. Is that because of the inner part or the part that gets hot? What is called???  I'm at a lose for words right now and can't think of it graemlins/clonk.gif
