I just realize how much I realy on this place smile.gif Ok, I just finished checking my clearances w/ plastigage, fun stuff. I wasnt sure what to do with it at first. Where does the bearing lube go? The block surface has to be dry and the rod surface dry correct? Basically everything that touches the crank journals gets lube & Oil? Both? Thats all I need to know to get my crank in tonight...
Thanks guys.

Phil
the backs of the bearings and saddles should be clean and dry, install the bearings and smear engine oil(oil only) on the bearing faces and crank journals.
dont you have a couple of bbc rebuild books? the HPBooks "how to books" cover this in detail with pictures.

Yeah I do, but it didnt say where to put the lube, it just says to oil everyting. Whats the story on the lube?
Also my night just went to hell. My stupid rod tipped over and put a small nick in a rod journal. It wasnt a main, but I think either way this spells disaster. Im pissed off, will it be ok, its tiny, but you CAN feel it with a finger. If not, can they resize just one journal?
Im screwed...

See if the journal can be polished but if the nick is big enough you'll be looking at another .010" off the rods & new bearings. Get some tubes to slip over the rod bolts so this won't happen again.

Take a strip of emery cloth and wrap it around the nick and saw back and forth until you can't feel it with your finger. Don't take anything overly abrasive to it. If it won't polish out, take it back to your machinist.
Where are your Rod bolt thread covers?? As in a 2 " fuel line to slip over the threads?
