Just wondering if I should loosen the valve adjustment, to loosen the valve springs on my 496

Hydraulic or Solid roller? Solid Rollers, I am a little more picky of backing off valves. How long does it sit? If you fire your car from time to time I wouldn't bother.

I get my garage good and warmed up, put a lite under oil pan for a while, install battery, and fire up once a month. You will be good. Just make sure you warm engine good.

If its a mild hyd cam with no real hi lift & spring rates it's not an issue but if possible you could start the motor once in a while to get some oil thru the motor and doing that will also likely ensure that the same valves will not be open when you shut it down too.

If you not gong to fire it up durring storrage you could fog it with some MMO/Marvel mys oil just prior to shutting it down to lube the top end valves/guides/rigns/cyls.

You could also just spin the motor over 360 1x monthly to close open valves and open the valves that were closed.

If you want to be anal about you could also pull the dist and install the proper oil prime tool that pressurizes the entire oiling system and spin up some oil pressure pruir to spiing it over 1x monthly to ensure some oil it at bearings etc so your not turning it bone dry.

Dont forget to run a 2x dose of fuel stabilized for storrage too, todays fuel go bad qucikly making a mess of the fuel system & carb.

But if its in fact a real hot cam with hi lift/spring rates then i would back off the valves for 6 month storrage if motor cant be fired at least 1x every 3-4wks and simply re-adj the valves & pre-lube the motors oiling system with priming tool & drill just prior to refiring.

If its a flat tappet cam make sure your running an oil with good zddp lvl for proper protection.
