I have a 72 Malibu with stock rear suspension. Do I have to add boxed rear control arms to add a rear sway bar? Some of the bars I have looked up say they must be used on boxed control arms.

Thanks for any tips,

You can buy a reproduction re-inforcements that you can weld into your open control arms. Drill the sway bar holes and you are in business. I did a set and they turned out great. It's much cheaper than buying the boxed lower arms. Just drilling the side of the open arm and bolting the sway bar on isn't the answer. The arm will eventually start to crack and break out around the bolt holes. Been there.

I used the re-enforcement inserts from the lower control arms from a 90's Impala with a rear sway bar. It fit my 67 just fine. Just slipped them up in the control arm and drilled the holes to match. Worked great!

Does anyone have a stencil/template?

I have a set I want to box but dont know where the holes get drilled...

Does it matter if I am an inch off with the inserts/welds?

We can't forget what Wes Vann put together for us years ago - http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref16.html

That should answer all your questions.

If you choose to use two 3/8 sockets as reinforcements for the sway bar bolts we won't tell anyone...then just weld flat steel the length of the arm:yes:

lol ok

nah I bought the common inserts...I'll just weld them in after turkey day...the sockets would be fairly stronger though...I was thinking about adding a round insert of sort instead of only using the rounded part of the insert...
