: Who has exhaust cutouts?
four o two Jan 25th, 05, 8:10 PM I was wanting to put a set of cutouts on my Chevelle, right after the header collector, but was wanting to know if they're safe to run.
Obviously, I wouldn't run around 24/7 with an open exhaust, but is it something that's bad for the engine? Would I have to adjust the carb at all you think?
Bob West Jan 25th, 05, 10:12 PM I used to run cutouts, the kind you unbolt, I never changed jetting but I've always run on the fat side anyway. I've never had any problems.
Twilightoptics Jan 25th, 05, 11:03 PM No problems here. I dig the electric power plate. Flip a switch and you go from muffled to angry tick!
OUChevelleSS Jan 26th, 05, 9:33 PM I think one place to get them from is www.quicktimeperformance.com (http://www.quicktimeperformance.com)

unstable ryan Jan 27th, 05, 2:40 AM Hello, I am new here My chevelle is pretty calm compared to a lot fo others here.
I'm curious, has anyone ever tried to set the electric cutouts to say a relay attached to an adjustable shift light in a tach? So if it's set at 3500, the exhaust comes completeely open when you pass above that rpm.
Is this interesting or a dumb idea? how fast do these dumps open and close?
thanks,
Ryan
10sec69 Jan 27th, 05, 9:59 AM Easy, you could use one of these (http://www.msdignition.com/rpm_7.htm) . Or, you could hook up a micro-switch to the carb linkage to make it throttle activated.
onovakind67 Jan 27th, 05, 10:45 AM It takes them a while to open, so an rpm activated switch might have you at the top of second gear before the noise starts.
unstable ryan Jan 28th, 05, 3:16 AM I myself studied computer science, it's kinda within my understanding but not within my ability to build things like my friend Mike does. He wants to do this for my car but use really powerful solenoids so it should be open by the time your half way through a gear. I believe him on this kind of thing as I think he built a tesla coil in his basement. It's wierd, but I respect that. It should be roaring by mid summer or so if all goes well. I will document it if it works.
