Hey all,
I´m, restoring a 72 chevelle and I want to let it look as stock as possible. I´m gonna buy a new exhaust system soon. I guess I´ll get it from www.gardnerexhaus.com (http://www.gardnerexhaust.com) .
The engine I will put in is a 383 chevy, but to have a stock looking engine, I will use the stock manifolds. Now I think the 383 would like to have a bigger diameter on the exhaust system. Is it possible to fit a 2 1/4 or a 2 1/2 system to a stock manifold, or doesn´t this work?

Thanks

You can't put a true 2.5" pipe up to your stock manifolds but you could run a 2.25 for about 6-8" and then expand the pipe to slide into a 2.5" the rest of the way. We made a downpipe set for Pontiac that starts as 2" but immediately expands to 2.5" after a few inches. We have one for 78-88 G body coming in 2 weeks and I believe it will fit other small block applications. Anyone want to test a pair?

Here are the Pontiac pipes we did.

Maybe I'm all wet here but I thought somebody is running late model LT-1(-4??), 2.5" or was it 3" diameter exhaust manifolds or was it stock, tubular headers??

I ask b/c I didn't think there were any bigger outlet exhaust manifolds then the 2.5" Vette/Duece ramshorns of old...
