: muffler streetability
marinablue67 May 27th, 04, 5:51 PM So, out of those who are familiar with the Dynomax muffler lineup, I'm looking at the Ultraflo bullets (the round one with a smooth transition from pipe to slightly larger case), and the Ultraflo round (a straight round cylinder that is larger than the inlet and outlet pipes). I know that the Bullet will be louder than the Round, but how much so? Summit and Jegs describe the Bullet as race, and the Round as race/street.
What are the differences volume/tone wise? Do you think a Bullet would be too much for a weekend bruiser? I was looking at a 40-series Flo, but my heart is with the packed straight pipe rumble and wail.
btw, I have Super Turbos and 2.5" w/ tailpipes right now, but it is just plain not loud enough. I'm running a somewhat racey 283, so it's not as loud as, say, a hopped up 454 from the get-go.
Motor Martyr May 27th, 04, 9:20 PM the bullets sound slightly quieter then open headers.
if you want a quieter tone, then go for the Dynomax Oval Ultraflo.
marinablue67 May 27th, 04, 9:46 PM by the looks of the Oval, i'd say it will probably be quieter than the Round..... not sure how these two compare exactly, but I know I wanna make some noise!
High Output May 27th, 04, 11:07 PM Hi, I ran the Bullets behind my Olds 455 and as stated above, they are like open headers but quieter. Same sound though, they don't change the tone, jsut make it quieter. I love em, defeniatly streetable, easier to install and cheaper than Blowmasters or others.

Bob West May 28th, 04, 12:02 AM I'm running 3" dynomax ultraflo ovals,,,,and I love the sound,a little bit of resonance with the dumps, but sounds great.
Matt Leuck May 28th, 04, 2:23 AM I'm running Dynomax Race Bullets behind my 383. If you do a search with my user name you can find some vidoes of what they sound like idling.
I will get some more WOT vids and stuff tomorrow.
Anyway, my '71 is a toy for the most part. I only drive it when it's nice outside, etc. and I love the bullets  Every now and then it's kinda loud. I know this b/c if i jump on it when I'm next to people, sometimes they will instinctively jerk the wheel away from me :D
Idling they are not too loud. It's when you hit WOT with a load on it that they scream
I'll come back in here tomorrow with a link to some updated vids for you.

Zman May 28th, 04, 4:49 AM I also run the bullets on my Nova with a Nasty 355
They really bark! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I don't think I'd like them on a daily driver, but for a weekend cruiser, they're great.
They don't have that drone to them like blowmasters either... but my pipes exit out from under the car. Not rappy like glass pacs, but nice low loud rumble.
At WOT, they sound like open headers :D
I love um.
pdq67 May 28th, 04, 7:18 AM OK, what's wrong with a set of short W/D/T Continental style smooth perforrated inner pipe "Cop-calling", cackling, GLASSPACKS here????
Use a pair of the 2.5" short ones and I bet you will like them once you get used to the noise!!
I personally love 'em!!!

Mr.McFast May 28th, 04, 1:30 PM pdq no offense but i dont think i would want a redneck sound on my velle.......Just my .02 cents
bowtie455 May 28th, 04, 2:36 PM har!har! :D
broke May 28th, 04, 3:19 PM My friends running a set of those Dynomax Ultra-Flo straight-thru mufflers (16" long, 6" round case) with an X-pipe and they are suprisingly quiet. He thought they would be real loud but at idle and low RPMs its almost scary how quiet they are.
I may be going with them soon. My Hooker Aerochambers are waaaay too loud for me.
MadMarv May 28th, 04, 9:14 PM I did a cam change from mild to overly radical and swapped in an x pipe from my true duals, but kep the same mufflers and 3" tailpipes, same headers, same all that.
The car is much, much quieter now. Before you could hear the car pull out onto roads from far away (supposedly) now it reminds people more of a viper or vette, it just kinda goes but not alot of noise.
I don't know because I never heard the car while not inside it, I have never even followed it. I only know what it sounds like inside.
Family members won't get on it on the street for fear of cops, and they are always too busy to come to the track with me (with some exceptions of course, but we are the pull four runs and get out before it gets crowded types so never get to play around). And the people who volunteer to let me hear my car are usually not the people I would pick to watch it go down the 1/4...
x-pipes IMHO can make cars very quiet. I find it pleasant, I can cruise in the car now and enjoy it..
