Decided today to install mufflers on the drag car so I can run @ some of the Seattle area tracks, i.e. Bremerton and Pacific. They require mufflers or at least be under the NHRA dB level. I have lemons headers which fit pretty tight to the underside of the floor pan so my choices might be dictated by clearance. If I can't fit collector mufflers does anyone have experience w/ the vortex insets sold by Dynatech?? they won't commit on how much dB reduction to expect. If any one is running these could you let me know how they worked? Thanks.

TWC,
I am kind of looking in to this as well, and I am limited in space as you are...I will mostly run Pacific raceways and they do NOT require mufflers...also, have talked to other guys that have run Bremerton with no mufflers and have been fine...
The info on this on the Bremerton web site is very confusing because the db levels that they give are so high that you don't need mufflers in order to meet them...but they say that all vehicles myst be muffled...confusing.
I will call their tech guy there some time this week to get clarification...
I am looking at the Vorted and Car Chemistry...probably will go without mufflers for now as I will be running Pacific most of the time...
Good luck.
Thanks Yanniz , our track here in Spokane may be in jepordy as the owner is being sued by the other investors. we'll have to wait and see. The smallest collector muffler I can find is 4.5" in diameter and I don't have room under my floor boards for them. I'd hate to travel all the way to Bremerton and not be able to run. the Vortex inserts may get me by in Bremerton if they are as loose as you indicate.
Does anyone have experience with the Vortex inserts?

Run a search on the inserts, I read enough to find out they are big power robbers. If you need a "muffler" try the dynomax race bullets.
Thanks, I had run several searches but didn't think of inserts as a search topic. I was afraid that they would be a problem. What do you think of a short piece of 31/2" exhaust tube just long enough to put a couple of bends in it to gain clearance and then 31/2" bullit race mufflers. I wonder if that would be like adding longer collectors and end up lowering the torque band.

TWC, sounds like an ugly situation there with the track...hope it turns out ok for you guys...
vortex muff. do not rob a lot of power...you can give them a shot and see how they work...from the people that I talked to you get some noise reduction...like I said my concern would be to just have something there in case the Bremerton people ask...meeting their noise requirements would not be a concern even with open headers...
good luck and maybe I will see you at PR or Bremerton this year...

ive ran mine both ways that is no pipes and with pipes no time difference.i ran a 3inch pipe off the header and had it bent to run out in front of rear wheel.it gets the noise out from under the car anyways.i then put dynomax bullets on and couldnt tell if it was much quiter than before.money wasted on the bullets as far as im conserded
