Peloose Nov 18th, 08, 12:44 AM I like it. What are the dimensions?
trmnatr Nov 18th, 08, 12:47 AM Nice
Where did you get it? How much did they charge if you dont mind?
Whats in the Garage (Red one) behind that one????
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Nov 18th, 08, 12:48 AM It's 12' x 30'. This one cost around $5,600 delivered. Theyre pretty much made to order, in a variety of dimensions
grandsport Nov 18th, 08, 12:53 AM Cool, I like it.
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Nov 18th, 08, 12:54 AM I bought it from a company that distributes amish built buildings. My folks have done buisness with them before and they've always been great quality. The red one has 30years of my Dad's junk in it. It will soon be gone through and cleaned out,so he can use it for a work shop. Hopefully I can talk him into putting a lift in there, lol.

Where did you get it in MD for that price?
Good Job
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Nov 18th, 08, 1:01 AM They're manufactured in PA,and the company that sells them is in Jefferson. A relative that works for them got us a deal I think :)

Maybe we could be cousins in May or June.:D
70 SS LS-5 Nov 18th, 08, 1:53 AM Cool garage. It sucks having to keep your car outside year-round...ask me how I know :(
SS396ELKY Nov 18th, 08, 3:53 AM What did your Chevelle do to get put in the Dog House??? :D
Nice I like it...
Works for me. I built a 12'x22' mini-barn/garage with loft storage a couple years ago for my Malibu. Cost about $3k in materials but a LOT of my labor.
sonk Nov 18th, 08, 8:47 AM Congrats on the new garage!!!

Ditto...and also in a cold winter climate!
You know you're devoted to this hobby when you put on two layers of clothes and set up a propane heater in the driveway so that you can turn wrenches when it's below freezing! And you dance a jig when it gets into the 40's because you can actually feel your fingers!
Andy69 Nov 18th, 08, 10:58 AM too small!!! :)

Been there, done that
barryt Nov 18th, 08, 1:38 PM WOW your Chevelle did fit inside!
What is the floor made of?
That is a great looking building!
Watch the floor. My dad had a pre-fabricated garage, dropped off which was assembled on site to park his 16 ft aluminum boat with 45 hp motor in. The weight of his fishing rig started to depress the plywood between joists. The plywood was ¾”thick. We took and made pads to span the joist to park the wheels of the boat on to prevent any more sagging. Just think it might be something you need to watch for.
70ChevelleRagtop Nov 18th, 08, 2:01 PM That really is cool idea. If the building isn't permanently attached to the property (ie. has a foundation or slab) then you can't be taxed on it (at least where I live you can't)!
I'm intersted in what the floor is made out of. I had an old farm building on my place that was on three huge steel skids. I tore the building down but still have the skids. I keep thinking I need to build a storage building on them so I have more storage space!
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Nov 18th, 08, 3:16 PM When it was ordered we specified it would need to hold a car. They told my folks this is what these are often purchasd for,and it will hold a car. All the flooring is treated and reinforced. We painted the inner floor with Ford grey enamel implement paint (since I always put Ford beneath chevrolet, lol).
When my Dad and neighbor repositioned it they made sure all the runners are in contact with the gravel beneath it. I parked the car more towards the rear/center for the winter to help things settle evenly. We're keeping an eye on it to see what it does. I am also looking into the possibility of using some steel plates to distribute the weight, and that way I could probably even jack the car up in there if I needed to.
savage71chevelless Nov 18th, 08, 7:58 PM nice, love your garage and your 71
FIG Nov 18th, 08, 11:25 PM FYI if you tell the amish that you are going to put a car in thr sheds/garages they will spec the right floor. the 14x40 "shed" that dad has hasn't had any dips in the floor with two cars in it.
1badss396 Nov 18th, 08, 11:37 PM I could use 20 of those:yes:
68_elky Nov 19th, 08, 4:17 AM I know you plan on working out in it during the winter, and I know it gets cold where you live, you might want to insulate the walls and ceiling ASAP. You don't want that car getting cold since you are spoiling it now :)

How I built mine was I used 4 6x6 treated runners each on 5 conc block piers equally speced. Then treated 2x4's 1 ft OC across the runners. Then 2 layers of 3/4" plywood with joints staggered and galv nails approx 12" OC on all joints. I put 3 coats of polyurethane sealer on the floor with some mortar sand sprinkled on while wet for anti-skid. The floor doesn't move or sag with a Chevelle on it.

Well Dad told the builder what he had and what its weight was. Builder said We got it covered !! Well when dad got on his case about the floor a year later. The builder wouldn't take his calls so. We cut the extra plywood pads and tapered them so the boat could be rolled on to them with out much effort. The garage is well built but it just should have had that second layer of plywood. 24 years later my Mom had a new roof put on because of A 1 leak
She stores a lot of stuff in that building now.
I have been waiting on quotes to expand my garage. But think I'll go portable now for the tax reasons. This is to get my 54 Belair Sport Coupe out of the way until I can get motivated on it again. :pout:
And that is really hard now with my SS396.:D
Adam Loose Nov 19th, 08, 11:33 AM How solid are the floors? Can you use a floor jack and jack stands to support the car with no problems?
BIG EVIL CHEVELLE Nov 19th, 08, 11:43 AM We have other projects in mind for the inside, like a work area, and maybe insulating and puttting in walls. For now I gotta get caught up on $$$.
