: Removable H-pipe?

Hi Guys,

My holley is acting up so the car isn't running, and I'm bored.

I'm thinking of getting a removable H-pipe made for my exhaust system. I like the sound of the true duals, and not sure what its going to sound like with the H, so I want to make it removable. I've also been thinking about what a pain it was dropping/replacing a trans in my friend's h-pipe equipped car.

I was thinking of having the H welded up with inlets/outlets expanded to slip over my current pipes and then use clamps to hold it on. Any problem with this?

Also, where should I place it? I've heard of painting the head pipes and to put it just after the area where the paint peeled from exhaust heat?

Thanks,
Enrique.

I have my X pipe installed with header connecters on each end. I remove the whole X when I pull the trans.

Clamps usually dent the outside pipe into the inside pipe. Can be very hard to take apart. The collector flanges are the best way to go.

The paint thing is controversial but it's probably as good as most other methods.

Can I buy the collector flanges by themselves or do most muffler shops have these? I want to have some good thick flanges to avoid leaks.

Thanks for reminding me about the clamps, that's how my bro's nova is set up and it was SO fun to pull the system apart, LOL. Don't need to do that again.

Use band clamps, they don't dig in to the pipe. Yes, most muffler shops have flanges to build your own style collectors.
