70ChevelleRagtop Nov 17th, 08, 8:40 PM The new motor for my 70 convertible is just about ready. A few more parts and it will be done. I even made a water temp wire clip just for Brad (1badss396)!

That is a GM LS6 / L78 intake (Winters casting).
Every time I think I'm about done, I find more "nickel and dime" things i need. Unfortunately these nickel and dime things cost $15 and $25! Man this is starting to add up in a hurry!
My carb should be ready this week and then I think I need to place one more order for a few more detail parts, then I'm good to go.
Jon - You'll be hearing from me this weekend guaranteed! I need to take a looksie under the hood of your vert for comparison purposes.
69396ss Nov 19th, 08, 2:17 PM Hhhmm. Are those "291" Closed Chambered, square port heads I see?
(You can spot those LS6 Heads a mile away)
Fun stuff.

Famous last words those nickle and dime items will just keep on adding up:yes::yes:
Just when you think your done your not untill all the guys on TC agree and say your done, LOLl:)
So that little temp sensor bracket worked sure beats spending the $500 for the other valve covers.

You know, I tried 3 TIMES to make the clip out of a feeler gauge like you had previously recommended to others. Each time, it would snap when I put the last bend in it! (I have a really bad temper and I was STEAMING after the third one) I remembered I had some old stainless steel sheet metal laying around. I took a piece of that and whipped it into shape. It polished up just like the chrome on the valve covers! I'll get a pic of it and post it.
1badss396 Nov 19th, 08, 7:37 PM John was the one who made one out of a feeler gauge. I made mine from an aluminum wire holder clip cut it and bent it then polished it. Then used very small dab of JB weld worked like a charm. I guess you can call them a $400 Wire clip:D
69396ss Nov 19th, 08, 8:14 PM You bent a hardened Steel Feeler guage? I hope you were wearing goggles :D

I've had these heads since I was about 18 (I'll be 42 soon). I swapped something (I don't remember what it was) with an old funny car drag racer by the name of Vern Moats for these heads. They have been sitting in the corner of my garage (actually 4 different garages since I've moved numerous times!) waiting for the right car to come along.

704EVER Nov 19th, 08, 8:56 PM Nice Dana!! I know all too well about the "nickle and dime" items, they ate me alive and I'm still not quite done. Don't feel bad, I haven't got the final stamp of approval yet either!! TC's a tough crowd, they don't miss a thing!!!

Dana, believe it or not I still have a dozen or so items I need to fix and if it weren't for the guys here, I wouldn't even know I had to fix them. That's what makes this site so great, the wealth of knowledge is outstanding and second to none. Keep up the good work, your car looks great!!! Keep posting pictures of your updates, these guys will be right on top of it!!
