I have run out of money to finish the engine, so I decided to move to body work. Mostly my labor and some materials that I have around or have purchased in past months. My dilemma lays in the drivers side front fender witch is for a 1971 El Camino. It will be a driver and by no means a perfect car, but that being said I do not want to look like, JOE DIRT. I have seen some crazy stuff before, but I think a scuplture has more filler in it than my fender. The previous owner also got very carried away with the drill and slide hammer. My question is , after looking at the pics, am I wasting my time trying to repair this thing? Any and all suggestions welcome and yes I mean all. here are some pics. Thanks for all of your help and know that I couldn't have done any of this without all of the help I have received from this site!!

Wow, that's pretty rough. Probably plenty of solid fenders down there in AZ for you to replace that one with.

That old bodywork was probably done on the car. The upper part full of filler might work out pretty easily now it is off the car. A patch will take care of the bottom. The Goodmark fender I bought to replace the fender on my '66 chevelle was so bad I cut the bottom of it off and repaired the old fender.

It should be an easy fix for you. Just be sure to weld up all the holes before you mud it. Don't put on aftermarket unless absolutley nesesary!

If your willing to put the time in it can be fixed. It looks relitivly rust free, and it's a GM part so it will fit without too much swearing. Get your self some hammers and dollies and work all that out. Considering some of the aftermarkets fit issues you realy should try to bring that fender back to life or find another original peice.

Well It looks like I found some original sheetmetal in pheonix so I guess I will go that route. Thanks for everything!!! I am glad to let this fender meet the crusher. Justin

Here I sit at work, 3rd shift, catching up on all the new postings and of course yet another post with a reference to ANDY, lol. I have to meet this guy, I bet if you do a thread search your name would pop up on 95% of all these posts. It's either something about buckets of bondo, lol or that damn Buick bumper. I hope I never become that popular!! :beers:

I'd just drink that bud light you've got there and start calling around to junkyards in the area for a good used one.
What better place to find a good used fender than in Arizona !!

I hope you poured the beer through a coffee strainer first to filter out the bondo/fiberglass dust before you downed that beer?
