Hello to all,
First of all GREAT forum!!!
I have a 65 chevelle with front drum brakes. I want to convert it to disc. All the conversions I have checked on they say it will push out my wheels 3/8 of in. Why? Or is there some that won't. I have lowered my car and I won't be able to install those. Any help?
Thanks again

That doesn't make sense to me, unless the disc is somehow thicker than the drum hub?

I don't, I've checked the ones on ebay and 0-60 brakes and others. They say it will push out the wheel 3/8. Don't know????

here is the kit i bought. go to the disc brake conversion link and i got the non stock appearing single piston kit. did the upgrades of stainless lines complete kit. all lines fit perfect even with headers and other mods. nice complete kit. i did have to nag them to send me the 2 large bolts that hold the backing plate to the spindles that were left out of the kit. they charged me $10 to send them that kinda sucked. but otherwise i am totally happy with the kit and install. http://www.inlinetube.com/it fit perfect. no mods at all req'd. i did have to get some 15" rims even though it said it would work with 14" wheels. i didn't notice any difference in wheel spacing. mine is also a '65 and plenty low. no probs with clearance at all. here is a pic. you can see it is quite a bit lower than the pic of me with the long hair the day i bought it in '86.

Hey Sean,
thanks for the info. My 65 is still lower than yours and I have 18 in the front. I'll send you a pic.
Thanks again
Hector

i looked at your pics. not tryin to say you are wrong, but mine measures about 11" to the lower corner of the bumper. i think that the small tires and rims on mine don't fill the wheelwells much so it does not look that low. larger tires fill the wheelwells better. of course that may cause clearance problems though. i will say that i wish mine was as clean as yours. either way, the disc conversion kit was a nice kit and an easy install.

I know this may be contrary to popular belief. when I did my conversion I got the works off of a 72 malibu at the junk yard for about 100 dollars. no way was I gonna pay 6-700 bucks. it works great on my ol 67.......

i hear ya, but there were none to be had in the area when i looked, and i was under the gun to get it together since i am in the military and had orders to Turkey in a couple months. so i shelled out for the kit that is prolly the same thing you got off the junked car. but it worked out so that i now have the car here in Turkey with me. can't beat that even if it cost a few bucks more.

I did too, but then I had to replace/rebuild everything, and ended up spending about what hte kit costs
