I'm in the process of installing a set of Sanderson headers on my SB '67 malibu, the passinger side went on easy, however i've run into a problem on the drivers side. I can't seem to get the collector and pipes to slide down past the steering shaft. Any ideas on how to get them in? (i'm a bit of a novice at all this).
My 2nd question is the lower alternator bracket was bolted into the factory exhuast manifold, however the new headers don't have the additional holes to re-mount that bracket. Will i need some sort of aftermarket bracket?

Nick i can answer the first. typically on
66 and 67 maybe even other years you have to go from the bottom. if it is a 4 speed car you need to take the z-bar off and usually remove the oil filter.
the tricky part is and i dont know about sanderson headers but with hookers and hedmans you have to take the drivers motor mount bolt out and lift the engine. what this does is by raising you lift the drivers side up about 2 or 3 inches and that helps clear the steering column and usually brake prop valve. its alot of work but really not as bad as it sounds. tommy

Thanks for the tip. I was able to get them to slide up from below (and thankfully didn't have to unbolt the block or anything because I'm not equipped to do that).
Anyone know what to do about the alternator bracket?

I don't know if they will fit Sandersons but Mr.G, and other make brackets to mount the alt (2 pieces). If the generally available ones don't fit, Sanderson should have a part for this. Jegs (http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1285&prmenbr=361) has them. D and F should do it.

Nick, I have a 66 SBC Malibu with exactly that Jeg's bracket setup that Pat mentioned. I don't know what type of headers mine are, but these brackets seem to be a popular solution.
I believe you can get them in that finish shown, or also black. My power steering bracket is also attached to these.
I might be able to get a picture that shows it pretty well, if you need it.

I think NPD has some sort of bracket for it.
