: (69 Chevelle full 1/4 panel)GM vs repop/fitment & thickness?'s

I use to have a LH and a RH full GM 1/4's for my 69 Chevelle. I bought the car 11 years ago and the seller included them with the car. Unfortunatley the quaters were sold without me knowing! Now I need full quarters and I am debating wether it is worth $1500 to $2000 for a single quarter panel or buy a repop?

Are the repops going to fit without major modifications?
Are the GM quarters also not going to be perfect?
Is there a difference in the gauge meterial that the quarter is made from?

My car is a original 396 car with a numbers matching engine and trans. I want to do it right. If I have to save for a year, I will!

Also, how are the repop fenders? I have one GM fender and one used fender that needs some work. Will the repop fender be the same quality as the GM?

Give me your opinions and experiences

Thanks!
Brandon

I can't compare an O.E. GM quarter to aftermarket as I haven't had a chance to see a GM quarter. I have replaced my left quarter on my '69 with one from Goodmark Industries.I used the full panel on the left and a quarter skin on the right side. The fit was VERY good with no issues on both parts. I gave a little over $500.00 for the full and about $160.00 for the skin 3 years ago. Have seen a lot of replacement panels that do not fit as my buddy owns a body shop, but he uses Goodmark parts ONLY on vehicles that Goodmark makes panels for. Just my experience.

Back in '98 I had new GM quarters installed on our '69 Chevelle. I was more than happy with the results. There were a few spots where they used a fine skim of filler, but that seems normal, because when the cars were new, they could have used some touch ups too.

Did you notice a difference in the thickness of the meterial?

When I used those quarters in '98, I bought another GM pair for our other Chevelle and haven't used them yet. They are .035" thick. The reproduction drop offs from the trunk floor to the bottom of the quarter are the same thickness.

If you have a good body man he can make repops fit fine.

Your right, but thats not what I asked. Your comment clouds the subject.

I think it was with the driver side repro fender that the body shop took a day to fit it. It can be done but it comes at a cost.

I'm not a body guy by any means but I tried a repop on my car and wasn't happy, so I ended up searching for two years to get quarters for my 69. I think there sure was a difference in the thickness and fit. The GM qtr just seemed to fit better.
Good Luck,
Don

repros are thinner. I think Rubadub has some comparisons on his website. I don't know if he did quarters though.

I see these NOS quarters going for $1,400 to $1,700 on Ebay. Is this what they are going for or are these guys asking a rediculous price and not even selling them?

They probably are getting at least $2,000.00/pr. I have a set I bought back in 1985 and paid $200.00/each for them. I paid $132.00/each for my fenders. The fenders are being used on my 69 right now, but I am holding on to the 1/4's. Never know when some dummy will plow into my car one of these days.

repro parts fit fine If you know how to fit panels.
Origional parts fit fine if you know how to fit panels

IF you dont know how to fit panels its hit or miss with repro and with origional.

EVERY panel needs to be fit togeather durring the panel fit/body work phases or else the car will never fit right. A while back I posted a thread on fitting a repro 69 front fender and also noted all the differences. Im feeling lazy right now but im sure a search should turn up that thread.

Are there any markings on the GM quartrers besides the stickers that set them apart from the repos?

I used a repop on the drivers side and had a NOS on the passenger on my 69. The repop fit like a glove, needs some tlc due to a wavy stamping, but my tail light extensions and everything else fit great.

The NOS quarters have a part number stamping where they meet with the rear window panel, at the rear corners of the trunk lid. The repops don't have this. I haven't seen any other differences, and didn't notice a metal thickness difference if there is one.
