Ok now that I have the timing bug fixed I'm working on all other little bugs. The car sometimes disels at shutdown and it isn't over heating. I am working on tuning the carb better but can't figure out why it does that. I suspect it is the carb somehow. I just rejetted it to 72's in the front and 74's in the year. That fixed my carb cough/bog which started after a timing change. Now the diseal has been happening for quite awhile but doesn't always happen which is stumping me.

Try turning idle down it solved the problem for me

If you've got the timing under control I'd say it's idled to high or you've got low octane fuel.

In most cases the throttle plates are too far opened. You can increase the initial timing a couple degrees, this will increase idle speed. Bring the idle speed back down with the idle speed screw. This will close the throttle plates a bit.

Make sure your return spring is strong enough and that you dont have the accell pedal cable or rod to short, both not allowing the throttle blades to close

honestly the only thing I changed was adding a twist or two to my vacuum advance to help with idle so maybe that is it.
