i posted this in the engine forum but had no luck.

first, my car is not a race car by any means, its a daily driven car. i am a teenager so my dad didnt let me go to crazy on the first engine. but i do want to know how the engine comapares to GM's Targetmaster engine. i'll post Scoggin-Dickies' specs for the target engine and then mine.

TARGETMASTER
Compression Ratio: 8.5:1
Block: standard bore/deck.
Crank: 3.48 stroke
Heads: 72cc
Valves: 1.94/1.5
Cam: 192/202 @ .050 lift .396/.410 max lift hydraulic flat tappet.
Intake: Cast Iron Q-jet
Carb: Q-jet
Distributor: GM HEI
Exhaust: open 1 5/8 headers
Scoggin dickie shows 249HP@5000rpm and 304FTLB@3500rpm

My Engine
Compression ration: about 8.8:1 to 9:1 according to my builder. (flat top silv-o-lite)
Block: .30 over/ standard deck
Crank: GM 3.48 .10/.10
Heads: 76cc(882)
Pistons: flat top silv-o-lite
Valves: 1.94/1.5
Cam: 206/212 @ .050 lift .425/.440 max lift 112 lobe seperation hydraulic flat tappet.
Intake: Aluminum GM Q-jet and 1 inch open spacer
Carb: Holley 600
Distributor: GM HEI with Accel Cap/Coil and 8.8mm wires
Exhaust: full length 1 5/8 headers, banged up.
Assuming an open exhaust, how would my engine compare to the targetmaster?

I would guess about 280-290 HP at about 4800 RPM. I would lose the 1 inch carb spacer, it's not helping your combination, throttle response will be better without it.

Good luck.

well, is there possibly another way to bolt a holley carb onto a Q-jet manifold without tapping the manifold? (the manifold is already bolted to the engine.) a smaller spacer maybe? thanks a lot Gary! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The only way I know of is the 1" thick adapter. tongue.gif
