just wondering what was the easiest way to remove outer axle bearings. i am working on a 1970 3.31 crv code 12 bolt posi. my book shows some kind of slide puller removal tool,which of course i dont have.thanks for help

If you buy the new bearing from a local parts store, they may loan you the tool for free. Or, maybe you can find a parts store or tool rental shop that will rent one to you for a half day.

You can make your own puller like I did with a cheap slide hammer from Autozone or ?? Take a pice of 1/4" strap steel from a hdw store and cut it so it will fit through the inner dia of the bearing when the strap is turned lengthways but when turned back up it stays inside. The width must be slightly smaller than the bearing ID. The length can't be bigger than the OD of the bearing or axle housing just behind it but bigger than the bearing ID. Drill a couple holes in the center of it and grind to make a slot that the slide hammer will bolt to it and still allow it to be turned lengthways enough to fit into the bearing with the slide hammer attached.

Autozone & Advance auto parts have them on the loan a tool program.

thanks for suggesting auto zone i just called them and sure enough they have it going to get it now.i guess you pay for the tool,bring it back in 30 days and get your money back.thanks again ill let you know how it goes.
