I have I 305 I required. Not sure what its going to go in yet. It has a cam in it so far and an intake. Are there any heads that will give me more power, or should I have the heads ported and polished? The motor is a 1977 305. Thanks.

Be very careful about what heads you put on a 305 . . . you absolutely need heads with small chambers to keep your compression up (you want 58cc chambers). You also want to stay with smaller 1.94/1.50" valves because there is not enough room for the large 2.02/1.6" valves with the 305's small bore.
I'd take a look at the new Trick Flow Specialties 170cc heads. they are designed for smaller engines and should work real nice on a 305. If you are on a budgetmaybe you could pick up a set of used Vortecs and have them milled down to increase the compression.
Personally, I'd look at building a 350 or 383 if you want some serious power . . . but if you want to build the 305 to be different, I say go for it.

I think the best you can do on a 305 is the old TFS Twisted Wedge heads. 2.02/1.60 valves in a 64cc chamber, and it all works with the small bore as long as you keep the lift at/below about .520 or so. One of the magazines did a write-up on those heads on a 305, and seemed quite impressed. The best part is, when you finally move up to a larger engine, you can use the same heads!
Those heads are out of production, but still available on eBay.

Thanks for replying. Does anyone know what kind of power gains I could expect. Thanks.
