68SS396chevelle Jan 8th, 04, 1:09 PM I want to add Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers to my '68SS. The current exhaust set-up is a stock set up from Gardner's running stock manifolds. The case on my current mufflers is 20" long. The case on the Flows is only 13" long. What are my options? Also, the pipe diameter on the Flows is the same for in and out. My header pipe and tail pipe are different diameters, what are my options here? :confused: Texas70 Jan 8th, 04, 1:34 PM Look in the Summit catalog and pick the correct size of "Summit Turbo Mufflers". I hear that they sound great and you'll save a bundle. Also, check out the Summit brand headers for $79... :D mr 4 speed Jan 8th, 04, 1:38 PM I would get Flowmasters 2.5" tailpipes (which would also make up for the shorter mufflers) and and leave your headpipes alone.The tailpipes cost $100 and are mandrel bent/aluminized.You always put the stock mufflers/tailpipes back on too.I believe the stock exhaust diameter on a 68 SS are 2.5" for the headpipes and the taillpipes are either 2.0" or 2.25",so if you have the Flowmaster 2.5" tailpipes and 2.5" in/out mufflers,you'll be OK 68SS396chevelle Jan 10th, 04, 9:51 PM I saw reducer cones on the Flowmaster website. Would I be able to use these? I need 7" and these are 8". If not, could I get a local shop to fabricate a piece of pipe for me? Robert G Jan 11th, 04, 12:59 AM i have ran bullets (DYNOMAX..TOO LOUD) HOOKER AERO CHAMBER(OK , BUT I LIKE FLOW MASTER BETTER) FLOWMASTER(WELL EVER ONE HAS THEM, I WANT THEM TOO) GLASSPACKS(CHERRY BOMBS..WELL THEIR GLASSPACKS YOU KNOW, OK IF THEIR FREE OR YOU FIND THEM IN A JUNKYARD)I got a set of SUMMIT tubo muffler to break in my motor(454) they were cheep and i needed something too keep the noise down wail i made up my mind,WELL I'LL BE DAMM . THEY ARE GOOD SOUNDING MUFFLERS AND IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL BE KEEPING THEM!!!AT $15.95 APICE I CAN SPEND MONEY ON A X PIPE!!!
