graemlins/waving.gif Hi all...I was referred to this board from "chevytalk.org" so needless to say, i'm new here. Been readin' and searchin' and this seems like a nice place that I will probably be spending some time at smile.gif

Need some help so here goes...i've been doing a little homework, and this is what I would like to accomplish:

1/4 mile ETs = 12.4 - 11.8
MPH = 108.5 - 115.5
RPM = 5486.8
Weight = 4000 pds
Tire (in) = 25
Rear = 3.55:1
Trans = 1:1
480 HP @ flywheel

Click Here (http://www.scrtc.com/~chuckt/Engine.htm) to review my current setup. Now questions :
1.) ...will I be able to get 480 HP from my current heads (casting #3993820)?

2.) If so, what will I need to do to them (valve job, bigger valves, etc.)?

3.) Do you think these pistons would help get my SCR up to about 10.1:1 - TRW-L2242F30 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=TRW-L2242F30) with the 113cc heads?

3.) IMPORTANT: I have access to a cam and the specs are listed at the bottom of this web page (http://www.scrtc.com/~chuckt/Engine.htm)...does this cam look usable at all??

Ok...i know there are many other things that will have to be changed (stall, rear gears, etc.), but heads are expensive and I want to take care of this first then move on. So, please respond with tips, etc. Be as specific as possible...Thanks in advance guys :D , Chuck

Monte Carlos are way cool cars. A buddy has a mint 70 SS454.
Anyway.....awfull heavy to get where you want with a 402. I suggest a 454 or bigger. Or a lot of Nitrous....which is really cheating!
I had a 70 Chevelle with a mild 461 that went high 11's on a good day. With a 402, and basically the same parts, it went 12.7.

(maybe that's were I should start!!). Thanks for the response...please keep them coming...oh, has anyone had a chance to check the cam specs on the bottom of this web page?? (http://www.scrtc.com/~chuckt/Engine.htm)....thanx, Chuck

Those heads are bigger than 112's..more like 122 cc's (just built a 402 w/these heads..chambers are HUGE)
Those pistons have a .319 dome correct? Go for the 2.19/1.88 valves for sure,and either get a small solid or (not sure what the Lunati part # is for the priginal UD grind) the old Ultradyne 280/288 221/231 @ .050 .525/.550 112 LSA
I would use 3.73's too,and a good convertor..probably a 10" that will flash to 3500 or so..with traction/good weather,I could speculate on mid 12's

You will likely prefer a 110 LSa for mid range power, over the softer 114 lsa cam. It will have a broader power band and smoother idle, but for ET-minimization, you really want a narrower powerband that a 108-110 lsa cam will give. Idle quality decreases though.

BBMike has a nice 402 and its getting him mid 12's. if you want high 11's you'll need a radical 402 , or a hot 454. Mike uses the cam Chris mentions and 3.73s in a pretty well engineered combo.

Will this car be driven much?

Realistically with a 402 and the weight you should be looking to make as much torque as you can to get the best ET, you will give up some mph for ET in this case. As Chris had mentioned the 3.73's would be better, the 3.55's are not going to be but a little bit slower in 60 ft, not enough to changethem at this point. You will need as he said a converter in the 3500 RPM Range to even come close to launching the car hard. As 427L88 also said the 114 LSA will not be best, get something in the 108 to 110 range.

As far as heads I will leave that up to those here that have the specs right at hand.

Try to lose 100 pounds from the car too, that is done pretty easily with a Monte depending on your intentions with the car..

What do you think?? Price for that with 3 angle was $128.oo. Does that sound about right?? 12s would tickle me pink, especially if I could still drive it to cruise-ins occasionally...

BBMike where are you!! Keep it coming guys...Thanks for the info so far...Chuck
