My Dad let me drive his 65 and I noticed that my head was slightly rubbing the headliner. I'm 5'10-5'11 so I'm not that tall. To me it just seemed weird.
It is a factory SS with the factory buckets that have just been recovered. Could it be that they just added too much padding?
One of my friends also had a pair of factory buckets in his 66 Nova and it was the same way.
Is it just normal for the factory buckets to be in the air like that?

I am not near as tall but have plenty of room.
I do have friends over 6 ft and they have never been up against the headliner.

They would have had to add a LOT of excess padding to make the seats so tall to push you into the headliner. My guess is that the seats have the wrong lower tracks or that the seats themselves are wrong for that car. The seats should appear to almost be sitting on the floor (third photo down):

If I wear a hat it hits the head liner, im 6' tall. But I only have an inch or so between me and my headliner, granted my seats are from a 66 Buick Skylark, and I have a 64, but the 64/5 are identical in that respect. I have no idea if my tracks are the same for the 66 Skylark and the 64 but I like they way I sit in the car.

That's a nice car!
My Dad's is a marina blue color with white and black interior.
Any way you could measure the distance from the bottom of your seats to the floor so I can compare?
I'm supposed to go over to his house tomorrow so maybe I can measure them.

On my car, with the seat adjusted as far back as it will go, it is 2-1/2 inches from the floor to the bottom edge of the seat frame and about 9-3/4 inches to the top seam bead of the seat cover.

There has been a problem with the later model bucket seat foams (66-72). They are to stiff or to tall. When you install them you end up with the same problem...head into the headliner. I'd guess they replaced the foams (buns) or added to them to cause your problem. Remeber that Hoss Cartwright used to drive one of these and he had to fit. Probably without his hat on though.

Im 6'2 and my head hits the headliner. Ive got ProcarLowbacks (came in the car when I bought it) and I hate those seats. They do sit up a little higher than stock buckets though. I have to slouch in my seat to not hit the headliner with my head.
