Will removing the torque converter bolts and sliding in the converter give you enough gap to remove the flywheel?

No. There won't be enough room to reach the bolts. Your going to have to drop the trans!!!

Get her up off the ground on 4 tall jackstands, then use a floor jack to help remove the tranny and go!

And WORK SAFE here b/c if she come's down, she can kill you!!

PS., I R&R's our old '77 AMC Mat's 904 MOPAR tranny by myself one Sat morning b/c it had a bad front pump seal.

Easy as pie if the floor is smooth and the floorjack is big!

depending on the car, you can rem the x member, tilt the engine a little, and pull all the trans bolts, replace 2 of them with longer ones, and slide it back just enough to get to the flywheel bolts-you gotta be careful not to break the trans bellhousing though
