I have a block dated Sep 18 1969,engine build Oct 23(T1023CRT).The cowl tag 04E.That is quite a time frame, can it be right?,was there a strike that might have delayed the car ?

IMO, no, probably not the original engine. Especially for an early production car.

In fact I'm not familiar with the "CRT" i.d.

Can someone else i.d. the CRT

Frank does the vin # on the pad match the vin # on the body? I've heard of some LS 5 motors being cast as early as Sept. and Oct. that didn't make it into a car until April or May. There could have been a casting problem with the block where it was put aside to be fixed at a later date. However, these motors had a 2/3 week prior "TOXXXX" build date that would be in sync with the build date of the car. What's odd with this motor is the date of engine assembly compared to the build date of the car.

Mike, the vin on the dash does match the one on the block.

A friend of mine who has Vette's and Camaro's said that there was a strike in 69-70 and that might be the reason, any truth to that?

I've heard a thing or two about a strike in 69 but by 70 this was cleared up and everything was humming along. If you can post a picture of the pad stamp it would greatly help.

Hey Frank, sorry to say but for a number of reasons, I believe this appears to be a restamp and not a very good one at that.

Thats what I was afraid of,oh well.....I can now cut the tunnel for the TKO600 without feeling to guilty.:beers:

This car was restored in the early 80's,I may see if I can find the build sheet.

There's no way that's an original stamp. The letters are way too far apart.

Not only that but the con vin is stamped wrong. The first digit should not be a 7 but a 1 for the GM division (1=Chevrolet).

Greg,

You may want to review Dale's website regarding the 1970 Chevelle CRT engine code unless you meant it should be in capital letters (CRT).

thanks but I though it was a 454 390 horse. Maybe for a Monte Carlo

The CRT looks a little fishy. It's a big block no matter what.
