: Dyno Help
ImpBiscuit Nov 3rd, 04, 10:02 AM I am heading to the DYno on Thursday night. I have put about 500 miles on the car so far. It is a blast to drive and seems real quick. The car pulls hard 3rd and 4th.
My combo is a 468ci. Steel shaft, H-beam rods.10.7:1CR,Canfield 310's with 113 chambers. a UltraDyne mech rollers .251/.260 .630/.630lift,Isky Red Zone,Comp roller rockers, Victor JR, 850dp holley, 2" hookers with 3" out the back.
Any guesses as to what the power will be? I know there are some guy out there with a combo close to this. What should I take to the Dyno besides my carb box, tools and a note book. I know the owner of the shop. He had said he will help assist.

onovakind67 Nov 3rd, 04, 10:23 AM Take your own timing light and set your timing with it - you may not be able to duplicate what you see with the shop's light.
Use fresh spark plugs and make sure your plug wires aren't faulty.
Make sure your rear tires are inflated properly, your oil is up on the mark and your cooling system is operating properly.
Make sure your rear brakes aren't dragging.
Make sure your throttle is opening 100% using the pedal from inside, you'd be surprised how many aren't. We once gained over 200 rwhp with throttle linkage fix.
kjett Nov 3rd, 04, 12:15 PM Nice looking combo you have there ;) You didn't say whether it was an auto or a stick, but judging by your 3-4 comment I'll guess it's a stick. With the proper tuneup I'm going to say 510RWHP and 495TQ. Good luck and be sure to post your results!
ImpBiscuit Nov 3rd, 04, 12:33 PM I have a Richmond 6speed 1st 3.27,2nd 2.13,3rd 1.57,4th 1.23,5th 1.00,6th .76. I have 3.55 in the rear. About what % is lost in the drivetrain? RWHP vs FWHP?

onovakind67 Nov 3rd, 04, 12:40 PM With a manual tranny about 15%. Divide your rwhp by .85 to get an approximation of the fwhp.
three85stroker Nov 3rd, 04, 12:56 PM If you figure 20% loss, you probably won't be disappointed. I've read that the loss is usually closer to 18% for a manual tranny.
ImpBiscuit Nov 4th, 04, 10:33 PM These are my dyno #'s at the rear wheels.
Max hp 502.4 @ 6300rpm.
max tq 461.2.3
we started the run gassing it at 3000rpm the tq was over 450 at 3300rpm and stayed there till 6200rpm.
So if you figure a 20% drive train loss the engine HP is around 603hp.
I am pulling a good vacuum at WOT so I need a bigger carburetor.
Just by tunning on the dyno I gained 30hp@ the rear wheels.

Harold Sutton Nov 5th, 04, 11:22 AM A manual transmission only loses about 13%, even 15% is a little high. If you want the REAL horsepower use this figure and you'll be real close. The twenty percent is only for heavy automatics like the 400 Turbo or C-6 Ford, etc.
onovakind67 Nov 5th, 04, 12:39 PM It really depends on the motor - a Briggs and Stratton would lose a much higher percentage of power through an M21 than a 427" V8.
