: Some cam advise...
Rowdymon Feb 17th, 05, 8:48 PM Well I'm kinda lost...
Setup...355 sbc, Vortec heads, flat top pistons victor jr intake, edelbrock 600 vacuum secondaries...
I'm looking for a roller cam that will give good ear candy, produce power with this combo, but not completely destroy gas mileage..
Suggestions?
Are you looking for a hydraulic or solid lifter cam?

TJC Feb 17th, 05, 10:45 PM For an off the shelf grind, I would use;
Comp cams
XR270HR 218/224, 495/502, 110sep
X4270HR 220/224, 474/474, 111sep
Crower
00467 221/230, 525/524, 110sep
Crane
HR-276-2S-12 IG 214/222, 488/509, 112sep
Rowdymon Feb 18th, 05, 12:53 AM I'll look into those...
Thank you.
UDHarold Feb 18th, 05, 10:04 PM I don't have a part number yet, but you might look at the VooDoo 262 SBC hydraulic roller. It was a 9.2 CR Vortec-headed 355, and it easily beat the Comp Cams XR264HR, with more power across the board, and 3" more vacuum at idle. It is on a 112 LSA, and should deliver excellent gas milage, if you can keep your foot out of it. Bigger cams start trading power for milage.

Specs: 262/270 at the seat, 211/219 at .050, .507/.515 valve lift, 112 LSA. It's 135/142 at .200, 2 & 3 degrees more than the XR264HR. I'm not really allowed to talk about the dyno test, but I will say 367 ftlbs at 2400...
Peak torque varied 5 ftlbs from 3200 to 4200...
Rowdymon Feb 19th, 05, 1:35 AM Hmm..only problem is the springs I've got on the heads only clear a .500 lift...
Think the .007 to .015 would be a problem?
UDHarold Feb 19th, 05, 8:52 AM Rowdymon,
Check them and see. You need .050" TOTAL clearance between the coils at max lift. It depends upon the rockers, too. Factory rockers rarely give a true 1.5:1 ratio, plus the pushrod angularity, etc, basically means you need to check the lift at the valve to be sure.
Check before you buy, obviously.
We ran this cam with stock Vortec springs, and it turned 6200....

Rowdymon Feb 19th, 05, 11:15 AM Tasty...
Any Idea who would carry this?
UDHarold Feb 19th, 05, 9:36 PM Rowdymon,
Summit and Jeg's, among others. But it will be a month or so before they have part numbers, etc.
