Well I finally helped out the economy and bought up the Stage 2+ suspension kit and SPC lower arms from Marc at SC&C. He talked me out of buying coilovers suprisingly and recommended stock replacement springs and a shim kit that I bought as well. Well anyways I was wondering if 5" springs that are used for roundy-round cars would work? They are pretty reasonable in price and can be had in all kinds of different heights and rates. More or less I just wanted to know if I had to buy Chevelle specific or if there is a racing part that will work just the same. Hope you can help with this

circle track springs with spacers or adjustable spacers will work.

Hey Matt...

I did the same by buying my 540 motor last week, painful but better than loosing in the stock market. Had I not sold some stock, I could only afford a set of heads!!!!

Glad to see Mark helped you out on the suspension kit. I bought the Stage II kit as well, but long ways away from being able to enjoy it. I would recommend getting a set of the Alston Varishocks as well. Since you are here in Sac, you can just go into the showroom and pick them up. They are pretty nice and lots of others on the board here like them.

I'm curious what he recommended for spring rates as well? I was going to put in my 500lbs springs but now thinking more like 600-650 Black Magic Springs. Think they are like $30 each. Super cheap.

mine has stock control arms and spindles, but i put in the AFCO 550# circle track springs and speedway motors adjustable spacers and 1.25 front swaybar. i love it. small block with aluminum heads and manifold and headers. AC removed. it is a bit stiff, but handles killer. like mentioned, the springs are cheap and can be had in just about any spring rate you want, so it is easy enough to change em out and experiment. also put in the QA1 adjustable shocks. just a heads up on that though. i had it all together before the shocks. had to drop the springs and lower control arm to get the shocks in. they did not fit through the hole in the control arm like a stock shock does, so they had to go in at the same time as the springs. but man does it handle good. cool thing is that you can dial in the ride height to exactly where you want it. lemme see if i can find the link to the springs and spacers. if i were to do it again, i might go a little lighter on the springs. depends if you want handling or comfort. I drive mine here in Turkey, and the roads can be bad, so it is a little brutal at times, but like i said, handles killer (better than i ever though this car would).
