I'm getting ready to change out the steering column and I need to know if the nuts on the engine side of the firewall around the column seal are captured nuts or are they loose. I have a S/S firewall and I don't want to unscrew the bolts and have the nuts fall to where I can't get to them.

If you are referring tot he 5 that hold the plate on to the firewall, they are just bolts that go into square nuts welded on to the firewall. They won't fall off.
