can you please tell me if this block is a good platform for a 500-550 horse/torque motor.
and if this motor came with hd rods.
some confusion about what this motor exactly is.
mark IV??has fuel pump boss and 2 piece seal..
casting at bellhousing mount is 1006*286 the astrict between 6 and 2 implicates a casting flaw like a raised bump.the tag above the water pump reads TJO4XXZO.one of the spots that reads hi perf
only reads hi pe f (missing r)
on both sides it reads 7.4 and GM logo
by oil filter it reads k23 445.
because of the casting flaws i want to know if this is a substandard block even though it is a 4 bolt.
also can i put 69 396,427 closed chamber 100 cc heads on this block, what if anything would i have to do,these are ported polished and 2:19 valves
i have called you in the past but realize you are a busy man,so i will post if you cant get to it maybe somebody else can.
thanx mike,
shane

Shane,
Looks like a late MK IV like 90 or so block.
Your heads should be no problem with the right piston & any MK IV block in decent condition, two or four bolt should not a problem for a 650-700HP engine.
Don't have a clue what rods will be in it but I have new Scat rods pretty cheap ;)

I'm sure someone on here can give you more specifics on the block as most of what I do is SB circle track stuff & I don't keep up with all these numbers

Best place to check on casting numbers I know of is here:
