Here is something that you don't see very often any more. I'm thinking of doing an old school chevelle ss, street strip machine. I've got an SS that I'm putting an LS-6 into, along with Merlin heads,Crane roller cam, and an Edelbrock polished aluminum cross-ram with edelbrock 500 cfm carbs. Is there a reason why you don't see more of these cross-rams? I think they look awesome, what about performance? Any old school guys out there that used to run any of these manifolds on the street and have any notion as to how they worked? graemlins/beers.gif

Your right they look awesome but the performance is just not there and they are incredibly difficult to tune properly.

The BB has some strange quirks when it comes to intake design. The cross ram manifolds simply don't work as well as a single 4bbl.

I know a guy that runs a 502 crate motor with a cross ram..has Richmond/Nash 5 speed with 3.42's
runs low 12's in a 65 Biscayne..looks cool,but I'm sure a single 4 bbl. might work better..who knows..like I said,looks cool..very big wow factor.Car is cool too..pale yellow,black gut,Torque thrusts,etc.

Yeah I know, I also have holley strip dominator with an 850 demon carb. I'm running a th400 with 3000 stall, a 4.10 12 bolt. I,ve had the car twenty yrs. and am in the middle of a frame off again. I'd like to get some pictures on here and get some input. It has showed well in the past locally, raced a couple of times, but mostly I just drive it on sunny days whenever I can. That,s what they are for. If it get's dirty I clean it. It's been down nearly a year now, hope to get her out next spring totally complete. I came across the cross-ram cheap and thought it would be nice to have something a little unique. Hopefully I can get it to work and back on the street. Thanks for any input. :D

From what I understand about this type of intake, it needs a rubber balance tube installed in the middle of each plenum between both banks under each carb. so that they balance each other so that tuning is a lot better then without it..

You know, like balancing vacuum secondary 2x4's sorta deal but the tube should be like an inch or maybe bigger...

BUT I have never used one or know anymore about them then what I have read/heard about!! AND they are way, "old-school" cool, imho...

Go for it!!!

Man, I have always loved the looks of the cross ram. Many years ago I had a '56 Chev with a 283, solid lifter cam, headers and a cross ram and 4 speed. There was a little tweaking involved alright but we made it work! It's been too long to remember what we did, but it sure was fun. No bottom end though!
Since, I have secretly dreamed about putting a cross ram on my Big Block Nova and leaving the hood off! Yeah, I know it is old school, but they sure did look cool! With all of the trick stuff available today it no doubt would not be the best thing to use at the drags, nor for a good street car, but for a hot rod it just don't look any cooler than those old cross rams. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Weiand has made a MOPAR N/S direction, inline 3x2 raised crossram that I would love to have a SB and BB copy of, but they did not make it for Chevy V-8's to my knowledge...

Sucker is WAY cool to me!!! But I have only seen it in their old cat.......

How about the 3 duces on the vette 427 for an old school BBC look?
or
I always liked the old Hilborn Fuel Injection units I use to see on BBC's at the races way back when!

I think we are talking about an "aftermarket hotrod look" is all, but the 'vette trips do run nice for stockers..

How much stall are you giving it?

I hope you have some luck tuning it. The weak fuel signal may require you to get to really rich on the jetting in those 500s. Maybe they're small enough.

Ever consider a hidden Cheetah system!? That mani is probably perfect for it.

3000 stall....I think the carbs will be OK with a little playing around with the mixture. If I can't get them to work maybe I will try the Demon carbs. As for a cheetah system do you mean nitrous.....my motto is ALL THROTTLE, NO BOTTLE...LOL... No actually I wouldn't mind giving it a little shot, but as it is my traction I think will be up in smoke.
